Luke's Point of View

"Get out of here!" I yelled at Asmith as I rolled away from the hydra. She wasn't kidding when she said she attracted big monsters. I hadn't seen a hydra up close ever, so battling one now was difficult to say the least.

"You can't do this alone!" She shouted and dived behind a large rock. We were in a mountain range somewhere north of New York. The car had broken down as we were coming back to camp.

"Get the kids out of here!" I shouted back at her. We had found two kids the day before. They were runaway kids. Twins as a matter of fact, sons of Aphrodite. They were only about twelve.

"I'm taking them to camp. I'll be back!" She shouted and disappeared. I knew she had shadow traveled there and would be back in a minute but that left me to face this beast on my own.

I gripped my sword and rolled out from my hiding spot. The hydra spit acid again in my direction and I jumped out of the way narrowly missing me. I ran around it trying to find a weak spot. I knew fire would take care of it once I got it's heads off. Dammit, I thought. Asmith had the Greek Fire in her bag. I had to keep it busy until she got back here.

I ran and slashed at its skin, sliding away and apparently only pissing it off more. I kept trying to weaken it without getting near its head. I knew another two would only grow back out of it if I didn't burn them. I heard something or rather someone land next to me. It was Asmith and she was back.

She immediately jumped on the monster and started taking off head after head. She grabbed a jar of Greek Fire and stuffed it down its neck before a new head could appear. I stood there, feeling useless and this girl smaller than me was attacking this thing like nothing.

"Stop admiring and help me!" She screamed and cut down another one of the news and burned it. I snapped out of my daze and began helping. She would cut off the heads and I would be the one right behind her burning them. I dodged and slashed my sword making the monster more angry. I was preoccupied for a moment and didn't see the last head getting way to spit a load of acid at me.

"Look out!" I heard Asmith scream. She crashed into me and pushed me out of the way and screamed out. As we landed I could hear sizzling and saw that the hydra had gotten her. She rolled over and I could tell that she was in pain.

"Go!" She yelled at me through gritted teeth. I ran back at the hydra and took the last head off and burned it. After it turned to dust and the wind took it away. I ran back over to Asmith who was now trying to sit up.

"Hey, hey it's gonna be fine," I said to her.

"We need to get out of here. Now!" She said in complete and utter agony. He breathing was rapid and I could see her skin had turned black and was burned. I could see the acid continuing to burn its way through her skin.

"Let me help you," I said. I reached into my bag and grabbed a square of ambrosia. She ate it and I could tell it made her feel somewhat better. I had a canteen of nectar as well. I ripped the side of her shirt open, where the acid had burned most if it away.

"Don't get any ideas Luke," she said with a grin. I knew that the ambrosia was working if she was back to making smart ass comments like that.

"You wish," I said. "Now shut up and let me fix you." I couldn't help but think about her when I was bandaging her up. She was a great person to be around and being with her was a lot better than being lonely out here. I wouldn't have been able to get the kids and fight off a hydra without her.

She was also so different from anyone I had met before. She was edgy and a smart ass, but there were times, just small moments when she would smile or laugh that I could see she had such life in her. Being a child of hades, I expected her to be gloomy and moody. Although most of the time she was I couldn't help but be attracted to her in the small movements that we shared.

She would never accept me. I doubted that she even felt anything towards me other than as a friend. Also no one could like me, I and nearly destroyed everything for my own selfish purposes. She was better than me, in all ways. I couldn't be with her, even if I tried.

"There, all done," I said and put a bandage over it.

"Thanks," she said and started to stand up. She stumbled and without thinking I reached out and caught her before she fell. I had my hands on her waist and she had gripped my jacket in order to keep her from falling. We looked at each other for a moment and then she let go and stood on her own, still swaying slightly.

"We should get going," she said turning away. I could see her face turning slightly red. Was she blushing?

I cleared my throat. "Where are we going?" I asked.

"My place in New York," she said.

"What? You've had a nice comfortable place in New York, and yet we are living out here?" He asked.

"There's a lot you don't know about me Luke," she said grinning but there was something behind her sass. I could see it. She had a sad look in her eyes and I didn't know why.
