"That's it. Come on, now. Come closer. Less talking, if you don't mind." Hagrid beckoned everyone over as he stood on the steps to his hut, "I got a real treat for you today. A great lesson. So, follow me."
Everyone hurried behind him as he began walking down to the forest, Harry and Ron trailing behind me and Hermione, rolling their eyes as we gossiped.
That was one thing about being in different houses, me and Hermione always had news to share, she would tell me about things happening in Gryffindor and I would do the same about Hufflepuff.
"Can you two be quiet? I'm sick of hearing it." Ron groaned as we brought up the subject of Padma Patil and Kevin Entwhistle apparently dating.
Me and Hermione exchanged looks before ignoring him and continuing to share what we knew about it.
"God, I'm so jealous of your hair." Hermione sighed as she reached up a hand to run her fingers through it, sticking out her bottom lip.
I smiled and pulled a strand over my shoulder to look at it, realizing how healthy it actually looked. My hair was something I never really paid attention to, it was dark which I liked, and I always hid behind its length, but that's it.
"Shut up, yours is so nice." I argued, pointing at her much shorter hair.
That was one of the first things I noticed about Hermione when we met, how long and curly her hair was. I used to put mine in plaits overnight to try and get the same texture, but obviously it never worked.
I glanced over my shoulder at Harry to see him too busy staring at the book we were all given, it was no normal book, that was obvious.
"Have you seen one of these before, Harry?" I asked, bringing him into the conversation.
His head shot up, taken off guard, "Huh? Oh- uh yes. I think so." He stumbled on his words, and I decided to not question him further about it.
"Some unknown trauma there?" Seamus walked in front of us, another Gryffindor who had quite a strong accent.
"Be careful not to fall, Seamus." I held my hand out to grab his arm as he was close to tripping on a rock due to him walking backwards down a hill.
He nodded his head at me as a thanks and carried on jogging down to catch up with his other mates, leaving the four of us alone again.
"Have you sorted things out with your friends yet, Aurelia?" Hermione turned to me as we reached the bottom of the hill and entered the forest.
I shook my head, "I haven't spoken to them since, I've been avoiding it to be honest."
They were the ones who made me feel like I wasn't welcome there, well Ernie was, so I felt like he should come to me if he changed his mind. I wouldn't be somewhere I wasn't wanted when I could instead spend my time at the Gryffindor table with people who made me feel welcome.
Maybe that was just me trying to hide the fact that I was worried they would reject me if I tried to come back and fix things.
"I'm sure Ernie regrets it now, you were always so kind to him." She tried to assure me, but the anxiety in my stomach wasn't calming anytime soon.
"Maybe." I shrugged.
We soon reached the clearing in the woods where Hagrid finally turned to face us, "Right, you lot. Less chattering, form a group over there. And open your books to page 49!" He pointed, giving our group a grin as we passed him.
"Exactly how do we do that?" Malfoy raised his voice, holding the book out in front of him.
I paid attention to what Hagrid said to make sure I did it right, so when he told us to stroke the spine, I felt slightly less stupid since that's what I originally thought.
