The next morning, I was awoken by a bright light burning through my eyelids, forcing me to crack one up to look around, realizing that I had stayed the whole night in the astronomy tower.
"Shit." I cursed under my breath, sitting up straight from the wall that I had fallen asleep against.
I felt my heart drop slightly when I glanced across at the railings to see that Malfoy was gone, I don't know why I expected to wake up to him being here.
My gaze landed on something next to me and a smile tugged at my lips when I realized it was my arm guards, Malfoy did have enough good in him to return them.
I stood up and stretched my arms out, feeling quite stiff considering where I slept.
Everyone would be asking me where I was, I'd have to come up with some fake story since there was no way I could tell them I stayed overnight in the astronomy tower with Malfoy of all people. They would freak!
I quickly patted down my clothes, sorting them out as well as my hair before gathering my things and beginning to walk back down the stairs we previously came up, the smile never leaving my face.
As I reached the bottom, I quickly leaned out of the doorway to check that no one would see me coming from the Astronomy tower before exiting into the corridor, holding my arm guards and notebook in my arms.
I wasn't even sure what time it was, for all I know, it could be five and I had missed all my classes, which I certainly hope wasn't the case.
Groups of students passed me through the corridor, and from what I could see and hear from their conversations, it seemed like breakfast was only just starting.
Thank Merlin the sun woke me up.
I hurried to the great hall, not wanting to be late to avoid suspicion while also tucking my arm guards in my back pocket.
Luckily, I didn't bump into anyone on the way there either, otherwise I couldn't claim I came from the library because that was in a completely different direction than where I came from.
Once I made it to the Great Hall, I quickly fixed up my hair once again before walking in, scanning the room as I did.
It was busy, very busy, and only then did I realize it was the weekend.
I spotted his bright blonde hair from a mile away, watching him as he poured himself a drink, arguing with one of his friends about something.
He looked like his usual self again, completely different from how I saw him last night.
I walked over to my own table and sat down in my usual seat, praying that they didn't even notice that I was gone. I'm an awful liar.
"Oh, Aurelia! We thought you died!" Hannah laughed as they all exchanged glances, immediately alerting me that they had been discussing where I might be.
"I'm alive, don't worry." I let out a fake laugh, grabbing myself some toast while hoping that they wouldn't ask any more questions.
"Where were you?" Ernie did exactly that.
I went over my made-up story in my head before quickly answering, maybe too quickly. "I fell asleep at the library while studying."
It was believable since I had done that many times before, but usually I would tell them before if I was planning to study at the library, but I hadn't and that might make them think it through.
There goes my overthinking again.
"Ah, well, hopefully you got some done?" Hannah raised her eyebrows in questioning before stuffing a croissant in her mouth, smiling at the taste.
