After studying in the library for nearly an hour, I finished my classes and immediately headed to the changing rooms to get changed in my Quidditch clothes, hoping to get at least an hour's practice in before getting to sleep early.
It was dark outside, so my vision wouldn't be that great, but it was just me so I didn't really mind, however aiming for the hoops would be quite hard.
I grabbed a Quaffle and my broom before making my way outside, the chill of the cold air hitting my skin, making my teeth chatter slightly.
This was probably a silly idea, but I might as well, just to get some practice in scoring since that was the only thing I hadn't gone over, apart from in practice with Cedric and the rest of the team.
I walked over to the pitch and mounted my broom, keeping a tight grip on it, my gloves keeping me warm.
As soon as I shot up into the air, I felt a rush of energy come over me and I held the Quaffle underneath my arm, starting at one end.
I quickly flew forwards, practicing my movement by ducking down before darting back up again, pretending that there were actual players chasing me while I made my way across the pitch, keeping an eye on the hoops while also practicing my awareness.
I had to slightly squint to actually see the goals, flying up to the height of the tallest one as I reached the scoring area.
Reaching my arm back with the Quaffle in my hand while still moving, I quickly spun around to gain momentum before releasing it, watching it as it soared towards the goal.
A smile emerged on my face as it went directly through the middle.
I would have to try and aim closer to the rim though if I wanted to get past a keeper, if I aimed directly in the middle then they would surely save it.
Once I got ahold of the Quaffle again, I rushed back to my side of the pitch to start again.
This time I would try a curve ball when I scored, which was nearly impossible to predict, therefore perfect against a good keeper.
I counted down in my head before racing down the pitch, trying to get the perfect ratio of looking where I was going as well as being aware of all around me, just like Malfoy said.
Cedric was the one who taught me exactly how to curve the ball when you try and score, it took me a while to get down, but now I was pretty confident on it.
While I flew, I also tried to nail the zig zag motion that was used to avoid any bludgers as well as confuse the other team, something that was necessary as a chaser, it was one of the first things I was taught.
The corners of my lips tugged upwards when I attempted it and nailed it, it came naturally to me and I could probably do it with my eyes closed.
As I neared the goal, I prepared to try and shoot, aiming higher this time while also curving the ball.
I made it look like I was heading for the middle hoop, but as soon as I got into the scoring area, I threw the ball at an angle and made sure to curve it, it instead heading straight into the top corner of the lower hoop.
"Yes!!" I lifted both hands of my broom and shot my arms up into the air, cheering.
Feeling slightly out of breath, I lowered back down to the ground and stepped off my broom before walking over to where I had left the rest of my stuff.
I bent down to pick up my water bottle, taking a few sips of it to soothe my dry throat.
Suddenly I heard claps behind me and I jumped up, quickly turning around to see Malfoy leaning against the entrance to the pitch, his lips curling into a smirk when he saw me frown in confusion.
