"Are you feeling nervous?" Christine asked as Stevie applied her lipstick in the mirror.

"Why would I be nervous?" Stevie spun around to look at her.

"Well, because Kristen's going to be there too. Isn't this the first event you'll all be at since..."

"Oh," Stevie sighed, "That. I'm fine."

Christine studied her, not buying Stevie's nonchalance for a second but she knew better than to push it. They were upstairs in one of the bedrooms of the rental house getting ready for an industry party at their manager's house tonight. It was one of those fancy events that they had to attend out of obligation, none of them actually wanting to go. But there was only a little over a month left until the album was due to be complete and they had to show face

"It would be perfectly understandable to be dreading it. After all those gross things she said to you and that fit she threw...I wouldn't want to hang around her either. Hell, I don't and..."

"Chris!" Stevie groaned, "Please, it's fine! Can we just let it die?"

Christine bit her bottom lip, making a guilty face in the mirror at Stevie, "It's just that...as your friend and bandmate, I sensed you'd probably be dreading going to this thing with both of them there. So as your friend and your bandmate....I sort of got you a date for tonight."

"You got me a what?" Stevie's head whipped around to face her.

Christine smiled nervously.

"Christine Anne Perfect McVie," Stevie repeated. "What did you do?"

"Stevessss," she laughed, "Don't be mad. Andrew was just DYING to escort you this evening. Just think of the arm candy he will be!"

"CHRISTINE!!!!!"

"Oh come on, it'll be worth it for the Buckinghams' reactions alone!"

"I hate you, have I ever told you that? I hate you," Stevie shook her head, putting another coat of mascara on now.

"You won't be saying that when Andrew's tongue is down your throat later," Christine teased, skipping away with a laugh.

"What is he doing? Coming here?! Chrissy, pleaseeee why are you doing this to me?"

"Getting you laid by a hot younger guy? Gee, how awful of me! He's picking you up at 8. I'm riding with John, Julie, and Mick. Lynn can't make it tonight so he gets to be my date. Don't worry, Lindsey and Kristen are meeting us there."

"I need a drink, oh my god."

Reluctantly, Stevie made her way down the stairs thirty minutes later once Christine yelled up to her that Andrew had arrived. She felt like she was in high school, coming down the staircase to this younger guy waiting at the bottom with a huge dorky grin on his face. She had to admit, he was totally gorgeous though. Especially now in a suit.

"Hi Andrew, nice to see you again," she smiled as she reached the bottom, leaning in to give him a hug.

"You look amazing, Stevie. Thanks for letting me be your date tonight."

"Well, I think you have Christine to thank for that," she gave a glare at Christine before turning back to him with a laugh, "Should we get going?"

Stevie felt like she was having an out of body experience as she rode in the passenger seat of Andrew's car to tonight's event. Not only did she hate industry parties like this in general, but she'd already been dreading having to see Kristen there all week long. And while Christine definitely thought it would be helpful for her to have a date of her own, Stevie doubted that Lindsey would respond well to her showing up with a 30-something year old man on her arm. Especially after last week...
