Sorry about the wait, I've been crazy busy with work this week. But hi, here's another chapter for you :) I promise I will not drag this story out to a million chapters long!
August 10, 2010, Phoenix, AZ
"Mom!!!!!" Lily screeched as she ran into Stevie's arms in the hotel lobby.
"Oh my god, did you get even taller?!" Stevie squealed as she hugged her daughter tightly, swaying them back and forth.
"No! But Aunt Lori did let me buy a pair of platform sandals!"
Stevie pulled back to give Lori a glare, who stood back with Barbara. "Oh, did she?" Stevie shook her head, looking at her daughter's sandals that resembled a pair she once owned back in the 70s, "Remind me to yell at her for that one. They ARE very cute though."
"Hi Lor, hi mom," Stevie smiled, hugging them each individually.
The rest of the band poured into the hotel from the limos out front, joining Stevie to give Lily, Barbara, and Lori hugs while they all caught up - the volume in the lobby now a few notches louder as they all gathered around.
"Mom, you're staying at grandma's with us, right?" Lily asked eagerly.
"Yes, of course, honey! Karen is just having my bags put in the car so we can drive over there."
"Hello, Miss Lily," Christine weaved her way through the group to take Stevie's daughter in for a playful hug, "Look you're almost taller than your mum!"
"I know!" Lily beamed, "Hey, Aunt Chris, wanna come mini golfing with me and mom later?"
"Ohhhh," Christine gave a pained expression that made Stevie giggle, "Well honey, don't you want to have just time alone with your mum?"
"We're having a lunch girls date alone first!"
"Ohhh," Christine grimaced, "Well, I'd love to join, you see, but Auntie Chris has ummm...an appointment and a bad back, so golfing is not for me tonight."
"Pleaseeee," Lily begged with a pout.
Just in time to save Christine, Lindsey swooped in with a grin to pull Lily in for a hug. "Hello, squirt!"
"Lindsey!!!! You'll come golfing with us tonight, right?"
"Golfing? Your mom knows how to golf?" he smirked back up at Stevie.
"It's this really cool place, they have prizes and cotton candy," Lily added.
"I'm sure your mom just wants to have you all to herself tonight though, but thank you for the invite"
"Noooo she doesn't, can you come with us?"
He looked up to Stevie nervously again, who couldn't help but feel a pang of sweetness at watching her daughter interact with Lindsey. Especially after how sweet he'd been with her the last few days. "It's okay," Stevie smiled at him, "You can come with us. We could use a ride anyway, Lori's made plans without us."
"You're sure?" He asked surprised.
"We need someone to beat, after all," she teased.
"YAYYYY!" Lily cheered, running back to Lori.
Lindsey and Stevie found themselves standing alone for the first time all day, Kachin quieting down and suddenly unsure of how to act again. The last week had been a whirlwind of sneaking around and playing house in every single hotel room they entered. With just a few weeks left of the first leg of the tour, they hadn't discussed what this new development between them meant or how they would handle it. The big conversations never really were their thing.
