"After people buy dem fucking tings put down, crawsis jankro like unuh come use man tings an a mi affy a buy back every mumma raas ting chro bombo man" I grumbled walking down the hill with the gas pan on my head.
Of course the germs dem use out the gas which decide say a today Sunday it waa done after mi rice deh pon the fire a bubble to pussyclaat.
Mi finish wash a come fi see rice almost done just fi realize that the gas done an lock off bout 20 minutes now jah jah star.
And nuh ask if the sun hot an I don't know him mi ago manage it go back up the hill.
Betta mi did buy friggin coal enuh man, but mi reach too far fi turn back wid the pan now
Finally after an eternity Ms. Valerie's aka gas lady's house came into view an I felt like crying with relief.
Mi never memba say a so far she live a claat
Thankfully she was outside when I got there so I didn't have to make no noise calling nobody inna the Sunday morning here.
"$3,800" she said as she came back shortly with the gas.
"FI WAH MS. VALERIE DEN A WHEN GAS RAISE??!!" I exclaimed, considering last time I bought gas it was $3000.
She sold it the cheapest but it look like say she hear bout supm mek she raise to whole of $800 pon it.
"Unuh act like say unuh nuh always get it cheap, unuh young girl active enuh so unuh mus can pay $800 more buy gas" she said before she took the $4000 I stretched out going for my change.
Yuh know say dem big woman yaa nuh have nuh manners though an bet say if mi tell her supm yuh hear say mi this an that.
When she came back I took my change without a word and turned ready to struggle to reach the top of this stupid fucking hill.
Jah jah yuh see an know
After mi tek bout 5 steps up the hill I quickly realized that this wasn't gonna work out at all.
I sat underneath a big guinep tree waiting to see if I'll see someone or a car going up to drop it by my gate.
Seems like God was going easy on me today because when I look down the road I saw two guys I knew walking towards me, two that I actually talked to.
"Dejanaé Cole a weh yuh a do outside miss yuh nuh fraid yuh sick" Macky said while pulling me in a side hug.
"Know long mi nuh see dem people yaah" Redz said dapping me up.
"Deh yah enuh a go cook but gas done an mi caa manage it fi carry up" I said hoping they'd get the hint and help.
"Nuh worry bout dat man Redz can run dat out fi yuh" Macky said slapping Redz on his arm walking off up the hill.
"Oye badman it betta yuh come grab one side an nuh mek mi wet yuh up" Redz said standing with his hands on his waist.
It was then that I noticed that they were on their way to the ball ground to play Sunday ball.
"Pussy any how yuh do dat mi tell Ms. Marsha say yuh theif piece a the chicken when yuh come out a the house" I laughed at their antics.
Three of us actually went to school together. We were in the same class from grade 9 to 11 and honestly they were the only guys I actually called my friends in this whole community.
I actually had another friend, it was always 4 of us everyday. Macky, Redz me and another girl named Anabelle but we just called her Indian or Belle. She hated anybody calling her by her full name.
We would always sit together if we had any class together and eat lunch every single day. People always thought we were all a couple since it was 2 boys 2 girls and we wouldn't even correct them at times knowing what even when we said we were strictly friends they didn't believe.
We use to say we were gonna move from the community and rent apartments beside eachother and travel and stuff together.
Well Belle did travel. She ended up leaving to live in the US in the summer going in grade 11.
The three of us still hung out though and we'd video call Belle at lunch time when she had free period at her school.
Eventually though we all started to focus on our own things.
The boys started to play football and hang around their teammates more and eventually me and Belle just drifted apart.
We were still friends til I finished highschool and she still had 1 more year left to go.
The time difference plus our busy schedule just didn't work and eventually we stopped talking until I ended getting a brand new phone and sim card as I lost the old one.
As always the boys were joking around as they brought the pan up and I couldn't be more thankful because if it was me alone I would still be under that guinep tree sit down.
"Thanks yaa guys mi glad say unuh did a pass yuh see" I said lifting the pan to take inside.
"Dat good man yuh done know say your ting different enuh" Redz said as they walked off.
"WHEN MI A PASS MI AGO STOP FI FOOD!!" Of course Macky could've never forget his belly I thought shaking my head.
Alright back to business the rice was on and the meat joined shortly after.
I was making some simple rice and peas with stew chicken and steam veggies today.
Mi really hope deh gyal n har big mouth man nuh come enuh cause mi woulda share mine n dose the pot wid salt
I turned down the heat on the rice and went to search for some clothes to take a shower.
After I did that I came back and shared out my dinner said my grace a dug in.
Aye hungry did a bus mi shirt enuh, mi belly feel like it did a touch mi back tpc
I was watching the new Black Panther in the meantime on a sight called soap2day on my phone.
Mi nuh have mobody a foreign or nothin fi give mi no netflix so mi jus affy mek use of weh mi have a lie?
Just as I was really getting into it a call popped up on my phone from a strange number.
Chro raas man an nobody nuh memba mi when mi siddung a look out a space enuh
I contemplated whether to answer or not figuring what's the harm since I wasn't wanted nor did I owe anybody anything.
As I was about to answer it stopped ringing. "If it important dem will call back" and I continued my movie.
Five minutes later another call came in from the same number.
Dah smaddy yah betta have supm a gi mi enuh
"Hello?" I answered not caring if I sounded as annoyed as I felt.
"Aye gyal yuh caa learn fi answer phone when big people call" I heard on the other line.
Den a which ole stretch out smaddy yah come a stop wid mi
Like the person read my mind and continued "nuh bother cuss mi off Dejanaé cause mi naa go bawl like one time again".
As soon as they said that I knew exactly who I was talking to.
But......how? I mean we haven't heard from eachother in over 2 years.
