Keely’s POV (3 years ago)

“I don’t understand why you didn’t do the talent show this year, Keels.” My friend Melissa said to me as we looked for a place to sit in our schools large theater.

“I did it last year and won as a first year, I didn’t feel like doing it again. I thought watching and cheering on my friends would be fun!” I said to her cheerfully.

Finally we found nice seats in the middle section, since all the ones towards the front were already taken. I had sang “Terrified” by Katherine McPhee, and won first place at 14. One of the youngest to have won in years, so you could say it was a rather large confidence boost, and gave me more stage presence when it came to theater.

“Speaking of friends, where’s Niall? Isn’t he going to come watch with us?” Melissa asked me.

“He said he was busy tonight. Not sure with what though.” I slumped down in my seat. I would have loved him to be there with us. It would have been a load of fun.

Melissa then bumped my shoulder and said, “Hey, look to your left.”

I turned, as she insisted I should, to see the boy I had been silently crushing on for over a month, Matt. He sort of looked a bit like young Jake Gyllenhaal(x). He was in my History class, seated right in front of me. We were just put into a group project at the beginning of this week, so we had been talking a lot, and I was really starting to like him.

I suddenly became very nervous and my heart started racing, especially when he turned to me and our eyes locked.

But.

He smiled.

So I smiled back.

“Keely! Hey…” He said scratching his hair.

“Hi.” I said shyly back to him.

“Can um… can I sit with you guys? I mean if that’s alright.” he asked nervously.

“Of course!” I responded, maybe a little too excited.. but he laughed anyways.

As the show began the 3 of us enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. Everyone was rather talented this year. A lot of great singers and some very funny comedians. Although as of now, no one was really standing out.

“You should be out there.” Matt whispered to me, making me blush.

“You saw me last year?” I asked.

“Yeah of course! You were incredible.” he said smiling to me. We just looked at each other with our cutesy/shy grins, not too sure of what to do. Then Matt looked down, chuckled to himself, then looked his hand with mine. And that was that, I was hardcore crushin.

Finally it was time for the final act, it was a singer. I was hoping he or she would steal the show, but I guess we’d see.

I was joking with Matt and giggling with him that I didn’t even notice when the singer came on stage, I just heard guitar strumming, but it was unimportant at the moment. I was focused on Matt.

“What day is it? And in what month?

This clock never seemed so alive”

I heard the male singer sing as he strummed the guitar.

You and me, by Lifehouse.

“I love this song.” I said aloud as I smiled at Matt.

I knew this voice.

I turned over to the stage to see my best friend, Niall Horan, singing and strumming his little heart out.

“So this is what he meant by busy!” Melissa said.
