"What's your plan Stephen?" One of the nurses asks, rushing in with more supplies.
"Keep her alive before Ace or River kill me."
"River? Why would he kill you?" the nurse asks, confused.
"Shit! She's coding again. I can't...there's so much blood. Nurse, I need more suction right here! If you aren't going to do your job correctly then get me someone who can! I can't see the field, laps are not holding! She's losing too much blood! Hang another two units"
"Stephen, I don't..."
"Not right now. Have you heard of life or death situations? This is one of them. I have no time for incompetency. Now are you going to help or just stand there asking questions?"
The nurses move diligently doing whatever Stephen asks of him. He doesn't have trauma emergency medical experience but is willing to assist where needed.
Stressed, Stephen looks around for all the gunshot wounds, finding five instead of the initial three that were mentioned. The bullets were hollow points which caused a lot more damage than a normal bullet would. Everywhere Stephen looks there's blood and more blood. Using suction and cloths to try and suck it up as fast as possible doesn't seem to be working.
"We're losing her," Stephen says, looking up at the nurses with glimpses of grief and frustration in his eyes. "I'm trying but it's just too much. Hang another litre of O+! Bring all the blood you can find!"
Immediately two nurses run out of the room and go looking for all the blood they can find.
Everyone else has been brought from the cafe and into the waiting bay and Ace has brought them up to speed on the current situation. River hasn't said a word to anyone and is only consoled by Bella rubbing his back every so often and Aspen sitting next to him.
Everyone is sitting outside in the waiting room when they see two nurses with blood all over their uniforms running. No one says a word but everyone looks around at each other as the girls start to cry.
"This CAN'T be happening," Aspen says in between sobs, "we were just...how? She's my best friend. How could I have not noticed it? How could we..."
"Aspen you know full well there is nothing we could've done because we were not aware of the circumstances. Had we known we would've helped everyone thought STRIKE had been taken down. There's no point in blaming yourself.''
"But Ace, we can't lose her."
"We won't. Stephen is the best surgeon we know. I am sure he is doing everything he can. We just need to be patient."
River looks at them and looks back down. He still has no idea what happened or why on earth Ivy would save him, out of all people, him! He's a fucking agent for crying out loud. He can't lose her.
HE CAN NOT LOSE HER...
River keeps thinking to himself. Out of the corner of his eye he can see Aspen wipe away some tears. Aspen is not one to show emotion easily so he knows that she's really worried about Ivy.
