You would think after being shot more times that I could count, that I would start to get used to it by now.
Nope.
Even after years I still can't get used to the searing pain, burning through my body. I can't get used to the amount of drugs running through my system as they fight to keep me asleep. I still can't get used to the fact that I'll have another dope scar to add to my collection.
I want to open my eyes, but they are so heavy. It's as if they had been glued shut by the doctors. I'm tired. I feel as if all my blood has been drained and been quickly replaced. I feel like I need to sleep for another week.
Muffled voices echo off the walls. Two, maybe three voices intertwined, creating a whole lot of muffled chaos.
''The doctor..'' Is all I can make out before my eyes close under the heaviness...
The loud beeping of monitors fills the room. I can feel my body convulsing under the sedation. The vibrations of footsteps along the floor is all I can hear before the sedation drags me back under...
This time I'm awoken by the faint sound of snoring as well as the faint sounds of voices. I will myself to push out of the grogginess and open my eyes.
Bad idea.
Immediately the light in the room is too bright and I close them shut.
You'd think that after the last time I was here I'd learn to not do that.
What are you doing! You're obviously still alive! Other people may not be! Open your fucking eyes, move, do something.
I try to lift my right hand but I can't. Something keeping it weighed down. I internally goran and tilt my head towards the weight. I slowly open my eyes and am greeted by a sleeping River.
I try to lift my hand up further to try and gently stroke the top of his hand, but apparently I have no control over my limbs. My arm quickly fell down, smacking him hard on his head, causing him to wake up.
"I'm..sorry," I say, my voice muffled by the immense pain in my throat. I managed to give him a weak smile. I'm extremely relieved. Thankful that he is okay, sitting here next to me and not dead.
He looks at me seriously for a moment and I see his dark grey eyes gloss over. I try to reach for his face but again I fail as my arm just falls straight down. "Sssorry..." I say again slowly, "Don..don't. Why aarre you cryying?" I manage to get the words out slowly.
River sits up quickly, "let me get you some water and let me tell Stephen that you're awake." He says gruffly.
Of course, here we go again. Once again Rivers' personality is hot as fire then as cold as ice. I swear I can't figure this man out. Although for now I would be alright if my brain would catch up with my mouth so I wasn't speaking as if I am some ancient fish that has been deprived of water.
