"I'm here to be helpful, did you really think I was going to sit in that bed waiting for you to come back".
"Obviously not, but I didn't think you'd be so stupid to actually come"
"Wow I take offence to that".
"You should, it was meant to be offensive".
"Yeah okay but do-" Our conversation was interrupted by a chorus of dreams as they echoed off the walls. We peered over the ledge and saw the mass of crowds running away from the floor. Women hid behind pillars as the men overturned the tables. The few children that were there huddled tightly behind their parents as they were pulled close towards them.
River, Ace and I just nodded at each other before bolting downstairs and into the crowd of people. I knew something would happen. As soon as we got down the stairs the King and Queen dropped to their knees as a man dressed in all black entered the room, dragging a young boy with his mouth bound beside him. The boy's face was pale as beads of sweat poured down his face. His breathing was harsh and uneven as the cloth continued to choke him. His knees were buckling as he struggled to stay upright. His whole body was shaking as the man roughly pressed the barrel of his gun against his temple. It was only then the boy let out a strangled cry for help as his knees buckled under his weight. Octavius! The man roughly pulled him to his knees, smacking the gun against his temple and knocking him out. His body crashed to the floor in a second. The room was knocked into silence. No one dared to move. Well almost no one.
We ran towards him, our feet thudding against the glossy tiles. Each precious second counts down as we get closer.
"I swear to god Ivy, if you pull a sherlock holmes I'll personally put you back into the hospital myself". Ace yelled.
"Is this really the time for jokes?" I replied, as we continued to run. The man at the front let out a low chuckle as he looked towards us.
"Better be careful sweetheart. I'm a real man, I wouldn't want to hurt you and your precious face". I couldn't help but laugh. A real man wouldn't be in this situation.
"You are not a real man! You carry a soulless clunk of metal and call them arms but they're not in your hands. In your hands they are weapons used to terrorise the innocent. You yourself are a weapon of mass destruction. A real man would know not to point a gun at a child. You are a sorry excuse for a criminal!"
He turned around and pointed the gun towards us. Loading up the barrel and clicking into place.
"Better be careful darling, it's loaded".
I looked at his cold dead eyes, then towards Octavius who was still unconscious on the floor. Blood dripped down his face, forming a puddle underneath his chin.
"Better be careful darling" I replied. Ace and River stood beside me, frantically trying to pull me back as I lunged towards the man. Shots were fired as I tackled him into the ground. It's as if the disease of his mind had manifested into his hands and into his pistol. It was that genocidal impulse that would always win. I wrestled him from his gun as he continued to fire. Another man dressed in black began walking up the stairs behind him. I grabbed the gun and swiftly shot his arm, narrowly missing the poor bugger behind him. An antidote to his own self poison.
