I continued to lay there in shock for the remainder of the day until Aspen came barging into the room. A small squeal escaped her mouth as she ran up to me, throwing her arms around my neck and pulling me into a bone crushing, stitch ripping hug. Her weight threw me backwards as her grip around my neck tightened. I couldn't help but wince at the hard but sudden movement. A small whimper escaped my lips as I tried to move into a less painful position.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry! I forgot. I was just excited to see you awake and not lying half dead on some dirty floor" She yelled, quickly removing her grip and pulling me up into a seated position.
''it's alright, calm down. I'm Okay. Nothing broken, nothing bruised''.
''You're not alright Ivy, you were shot. FIVE. FUCKING. TIMES!'' She yelled, standing up.
''Yeah and I'm still alive aren't I?''
''Yeah I guess'' she mumbled, sitting down further onto the bed.
''Exactly so I'm completely fine'' I chuckled, pulling her in for a gentle hug
She sighed as a small smile crept across her face. ''Hey can we talk''
''Yeah about what''
''Us''
I nodded my head and motioned for Aspen to sit down on my bed. She walked over and sat gingerly on the edge of the bed. I rolled my eyes and tried to move over, wincing as I moved.
''Hey be careful your still healing''
''Well then don't be and idiot and sit next to me''
She sighed and climbed over the mess and tangle of wires, lying down next to me.
''Now what's on your mind?'' I asked, running my fingers through her hair.
''I was just thinking about when we met. It was a couple of years ago. You were fifteen and I was seventeen. You were assigned to show me around, on my first day and you asked if I wanted to grab some food. I thought we'd just go to the cafeteria but you dragged me to the garage and shoved me into a lame old convertible.''
''I'm sorry but Gertie was and still is a fantastic car''
''Oh my god, you named it''
''She is a she and she is a god''.
She rolled her eyes and let out a small chuckle. She continued talking, her face lighting up as she continued to describe what happened that day.
The wind was running through our hair, as we drove through the countryside. The sun had already begun to set, casting a warm glow across the already golden fields. Her eyes lit up through her sunnies as she took in her surroundings. She glanced over at me and chuckled. I couldn't help but look at her, her laugh brightened and managed to brighten the scenery even further.
