"Mama?"

No replies. You climbed on Scarlett's bed, hoping that shaking her awake would help.

"Mamaaaaa?"

Still nothing. Despite you shaking her, Scarlett was still sleeping soundly.

"Mama wake up!" You said in a song song tone. You repeated it a couple of times but got no reaction out of her. You tried and tried again until she started to stir slightly, but she still wasn't awake. "It's early Y/n let me sleep." She mumbled, blindly reaching for the covers to pull them over her head.

"Mama it's 11am." False, it was 9... But Scarlett hated to sleep in until very late, and you knew it. You hoped tricking her might work, but it clearly didn't.

Enough was enough. You stood up on the bed, and started to jump up and down. "MAMAAAAA! WAKE UP, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!"

Scarlett woke up in a matter of seconds and let out a groan at all the commotion. She reaches for you, and pulls you down on top of her. You laid on her front, her hand forced your head on her shoulder, and you stayed like this, quietly for a few minutes. You took a peek at her from time to time making sure she wasn't falling back asleep but no, she was just slowly waking up.

"Happy birthday Mama." You said more calmly this time and kissed her cheek.

You eventually got up and got started with the day. You walked behind Scarlett anticipating her reaction to the banner you made and put up, as best you could being a tiny eight-year-old, on one of the living room's wall. It was right above the couch... I wonder why because you definitely didn't climb on it to put it up. You wrote 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA' in capital letters in purple paint, it was impossible to miss. You also wanted to add a few tinsels around, but you didn't remember where Scarlett kept the Christmas decorations though you'll find out soon enough as the holidays season was right around the corner.

She gasped seeing the decorations that were in the living room. "When did you do this?"

"Before I woke you up." You giggled

"You had this thing all planned out then didn't you?!"

"I just want you to have the best day ever! Like Rapunzel you know?!"

You help Scarlett with breakfast, making pancakes for the special occasion. You were even allowed whipped cream with them today. That was only reserved for special occasions like birthdays or other celebrations.

You ate together as you went over the plans for today. It was Thanksgiving break, meaning you didn't have school for the entire week and enabling you to spend the entire day with your mama which you were really happy and excited about. You thought about going ice skating, or even shopping if that was what Scarlett wanted, though ice skating sounded so much better.

"Mama, I got you a present?" You shyly announced. Scarlett stopped eating and put down the cutlery, pushing her plate aside as you slid a box across the table.

It was wrapped in a Christmas themed paper, but that's the thought that counts. And for an eight-year-old, you did a decent job.

She unwrapped it carefully and revealed a small jewellery box. But that wasn't all. You urged her to open it to reveal two pieces of jewellery. The first one was a delicate rose quartz beaded bracelet, and the other was a necklace with a citrine pendant. Your grandma helped you pick them out.

With these, came a note where you explained the meaning behind each of her gifts.

Rose quartz is the stone of unconditional love, comfort, self-love and acceptance. It encourages you to treat yourself with the same love, forgiveness, and care that you give to others.

You thought it was very fitting!

Now, citrine is November's birthstone. It's often described as a gift from the sun. It symbolizes the warm and the vitality of life. It soothes tempers and bring calm to those who possess it. It was once even believed to bring prosperity and unimaginable success to those who wore it.

Needless to say, you didn't pick the stones you saw first and put some thoughts into your gift. Hey, you wanted it to be meaningful.

"Do you like it?" You questioned as Scarlett's focus remained on the present. You saw her eyes become glossy, from your seat you weren't really sure what it meant. Were they happy tears? Was she sad?

"Do I like it? Oh, baby no. I love it. You could give me a handful of sand, and I'd love it because it would be from you. Thank you so much!" She really did love it. She loved everything you gave her, from macaroni necklaces to this. She loved and admired the amount of thoughts you put into one simple gift. The jewellery box was a scarlet shade of red for obvious reasons, and the stones that you picked meant so much more than anything she could have imagined. "I love it so much. Almost as much as I love you. It's perfect. Can you help me put it on?" She handed you the necklace, and you pushed her hair to be able to secure it around her neck. While you were busy with the necklace, she slipped the bracelet on her right wrist and kept on looking at it.

"Thank you so so so much sweetheart. It already is the best day ever, my darling." She confessed. It was a bit cheesy but oh well.
