A/n: I'm slowly giving up. This is uh totally not written from personal traumatic experience xx

Clary's heartbeat felt like it was pounding through her eardrums. There was a ringing sensation too so she focused on gripping onto Katie's hand which was slipping out of her own because of their combined sweat.

There was not a singular thought running through Clary's brain. This was a worry for she did not really have a plan conjured outwith running for their lives. She certainly did not want to use the knives on her personal but she had a gut feeling that she would need to.

They could hear screams and shouts in the distance followed by dim flashlights. Clary glanced behind them, they were far away but not quite far enough. Clary attempted to hush her panting but to no avail. She reckoned that they were running even faster than Clary had been on the day she was initially taken which was surprising considering she already hadn't thought herself capable of such a speed.

"What are we going to do?" Katie spoke in a breathy whisper. Clary looked at her friend's anxious ridden eyes. She didn't want to calculate the probability of them outrunning six guys - assuming that Jungkook was being left out. She wondered why they went to such lengths to protect his innocence. Clary shook such thoughts from her head. Come on Edwards. Focus. This is what you have trained for, to protect yourself. Don't let your training fail you.

She glanced at Katie. "Drop my hand it'll allow us to run faster." She could practically feel the anxiety surrounding her. "Trust me. We can do this!" She encouraged. Katie nodded hesitatingly and then dropped Clary's hand.

They picked up the pace to Clary's encouragement although she was not quite certain herself just how much longer she could endure such a sprint, she decided that they would slow down once the flashlights were no longer visible and that is exactly what they did. Once they reduced to a fast walking pace Clary was glad to catch her breath back. "We just need to make it somewhere safe tonight." She reassured Katie, and was thankful that her weather inappropriate clothing allowed her to cool down quickly.

"Clary what is going to happen if-" Katie flapped her and a little, terrified of what would come when they were caught.

Clary shook her head, "It won't. Come on the trees are appearing to grow sparser perhaps there is a road nearby?" She observed the area noting that the further they walked the less trees came into view. The two girls could barely see anything to begin with as it was a very dark winters night thus the sun most definitely would not rise for a while.

Clary managed to convince Katie into beginning a light jog in order to keep their adrenaline high. Upon squinting at the path in front of them Clary grew excited with anticipation upon realising that the forest was in fact levelling out into a road. "See Katie it'll be so fine!" She mumbled. She spoke too soon.

Just as they stepped out of the forest and onto a concrete road which had more forestry on the other side, Clary seen car headlights quickly fade out into a nothingness. "Fuck. SPLIT UP!" She yelled to Katie, knowing their now slim to none odds of being successful.

With panic in both of their eyes the two girls turned in their tracks and sprinted down two different sides of the forest, Clary could hear muffled voices and the slamming of car doors. She ultimately knew that they were screwed on the presumption that they were probably being closed in on themselves with half of the guys searching the way they came and the other half now chasing them toward the direction they had come from. She tried not to give up hope but at the same time Clary new she had to be rational in the situation.

She ran through the trees at a fast pace and the branches began to scratch her arms and legs lightly, she could slightly see her breath in the air. Maybe she shouldn't have split up with Katie. The method in that madness was that if they were being closed in on then perhaps at least one of them would manage to squeeze through undetected. She shivered. Clary was breathing so heavily she reckoned they'd be able to follow the noise yet she couldn't keep up such a run without panting.
