Evelyn
My mind is a mess of thoughts and feelings that are all intertwined and jumbled together like an unwound string of yarn. As soon as I try to pluck one end and assess it, it unrolls and a flood of hundred other thoughts follow it.
My head and heart are in different spaces and I hate that nothing's making sense. Especially when the person who's causing all of this pandemonium is walking right next to me.
I hate the serenity that's encircling him and the ease with which he's striding beside me as if he's completely unaware of the effect he has on me.
The scent of musky wood wafts off him, suffocating my nostrils and begging me to move closer.
I'm sure it's from an expensive bottle of some prominent brand.
"Are you going to speak?" Warren asks softly.
"No. I'm planning on giving a mute tour so you can use your imagination." Not a wise comeback, but it's his cologne's fault. The intoxicating scent has my senses confused.
"What's in there?" He walks into the room I sent Miles to. My dog seemed to like Warren as he was letting himself be petted and talked to. Traitor.
In every universe, I wouldn't let Warren know what Miles likes or dislikes. It's already a disaster that I'm going to work with him in the future. The last thing I want is for my people and dog to develop a liking towards him.
"Hi. Can I help you?" Jessica jumps up, almost dropping her sketchbook on the ground when Warren enters.
"No."
Miles joyfully ambles over to Warren and paws at his legs, asking to be carried.
"Miles come here." At my command, he comes over to me and barks as he circles me. I giggle as he tries to lick my shoes.
"C'mon I told you shoes aren't edible." I scratch his head and he woofs.
"He's your dog?" Warren asks and I nod.
"I didn't know you liked dogs."
Well, you don't know a lot about me.
"I love them. Especially this one." I kiss Miles's forehead and he makes a low sound.
"This is Jessica, she's my designer." Warren only nods in her direction before drawing his eyes back to Miles and me.
I don't know why he bothered to even look at her when all he did was take a glance.
"You can carry on Jessica." She sits down reluctantly and goes back to drawing.
I point for Miles to go back to the couch but he has other plans. Giving me his puppy eyes he waits for me to carry him to my office. The desperate look works every time.
Sighing I bend down to carry him. He puts his front paws and head on my shoulders when I lift him.
"You're such a baby Miles! I have a guest over and you can't behave like a dog," I mutter in his ear. He lets out a series of barks and then whines.
"Fine." On my heels, I reach my office and put him down. With a smile, he moves around the space and then curls up in front of my desk like a bodyguard.
"This is my office. The one place you are not allowed at all." I face him.
"Why is this off-limits for me?" Warren asks in a gruff tone.
"Because this is my personal space. A space I'd like to keep Warren-free."
With a smirk he stares at me playfully. "Your wish, my command." He says the words as if he means each syllable.
