December 4th. It's that time of year again
☆☆☆
"Ed?"
Edmund looked up, giving Peter a weak smile as he walked into the room.
"You okay?" Peter asked slowly.
Edmund nodded. "Yeah," He replied. "Why?"
Peter shrugged. "You didn't show up for dinner..." He mumbled, sitting beside him.
Edmund took a deep breath. "That time already is it?" He sighed, turning away from his brother.
Peter nodded slowly. "How long have you been sat here?" He asked.
Edmund tilted his head a little. "Goodness knows." He mumbled.
Peter was silent for a while, before he sighed sadly. "What's up?" He asked.
Edmund frowned. "What do you mean?" He asked. "I said I'm okay."
Peter shook his head. "I'm not stupid Ed." He told him. "I know when there's something bothering you."
Edmund didn't say anything for a long, long time, before he visibly deflated, swallowing hard. "It's that time of year again." He whispered.
Peter was confused for a moment, before he seemed to understand, and took a deep breath. "Winter." He mumbled.
"Yeah," Edmund muttered. "Last winter was horrible, I don't think I can go through that again."
Peter hesitated. "Maybe this year will be better?" He tried.
Edmund shrugged. "Maybe," He said. "But it'll still be bad, I know I'm gonna hate the snow, I can't yet look at it without being reminded of the witch."
"It's understandable Ed," Peter reminded him. "What you went through, it wasn't easy."
Edmund snorted bitterly. "You can say that again." He grumbled.
"I'm just gonna say, I'm here Ed, so are Susan and Lucy," Peter told him. "You have people here to help you, which you didn't seem to understand last year."
Edmund looked a little guilty at this reminder, and swallowed hard. "I know," He whispered. "This year I understand you want to help me, I won't hide things like I did last time."
"Good," Peter said firmly, but with a small smile. "Now, worrying about the snow before its even started snowing won't do anything, so how about we go and find you something to eat?"
Edmund thought for a moment. "Okay," He breathed eventually, nodding a little. "I guess at the moment the world is still green and orange, I'd rather it stay like that but, oh well."
Peter sighed, but stood next to Edmund, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. "You'll get through this." He said gently. "I know you will."
Edmund took a deep breath, before smiling gently. "Thank you."
