December 17th. All I want for Christmas

☆☆☆

Edmund fell to his knees in the mud, gripping his stomach where there was a wound that was quickly turning lethal.

He groaned quietly, squeezing his eyes shut as he bent over, all but curling himself into a ball as the blood spilled from his body.

He was shivering in the cold wind, and he was suddenly greatful it hadn't snowed, as that would make this whole ordeal ten times worse.

He knelt there for a moment, before trying to move, although that caused him so much pain he choked on a sob, slowly laying down.

He was shaking now, and he knew he'd lost a lot of blood, which was what scared him because he was at least a days walk from Cair...

How was he supposed to survive this?

"Edmund!"

Peter sighed, glancing around the woods in frustration.

He'd gone out looking for his brother after he wasn't home when he said he would be, and he'd be searching for hours, but with no luck.

"Edmund!"

He continued walking, his horse following behind him, before he finally spotted his brother up ahead.

But he was laying on the floor, curled into a ball and shaking so, so hard.

Peter, fearing the worst, ran over, falling to his knees beside his little brother and rolling him on to his back, his breath catching when he saw the blood that had soaked into his tunic.

Edmund groaned when he was moved, and his eyes actually flickered open. "P - Pete?" He slurred, sounding confused.

Peter swallowed hard. "I'm here." He whispered. "I'm here."

He pulled Edmund tunic up, swallowing hard when he saw the wound trickling blood, and quickly pressed his hands again it, trying his hardest to at least slow the bleeding.

Edmund coughed harshly at this. "I - I knew you'd - you'd come." He whispered.

Tears stung Peter's eyes as he slipped his cloak off, instead packing that against the wound so his hands were free.

"Just - Just stay with me yeah?" Peter choked out, calling his horse over. "I'm gonna get you home and you're gonna be just fine."

Edmund swallowed thickly, coughing a few times. "I - I swear I - I don't want any - any presents for Christmas," He whispered. "All - All I want for Christmas is - is to be - be alive."

Peter's heart shattered. Edmunds words were slurred and he sounded confused, and upset and terrified too. "You will be alive for Christmas Ed," He said firmly. "I promise."

Edmund groaned a little when Peter sat him up, and immediately buried his face in his brother's chest, choking slightly.

"Just keep breathing for a few more hours." Peter told him, picking him up and getting him on the horse, climbing up behind him.

He packed his cloak back against his brother's wound, hoping it would slow the bleeding enough for Edmund to make it home.

"I - I'll try." Edmund whispered.

"You damn well will." Peter all but growled, before the horse set off back towards Cair.

"You're gonna be fine."
