December 12th. Home for Christmas

☆☆☆

Edmund woke with a gentle sigh on Christmas morning, his eyes flickering open and leaving him staring at the door ahead of him.

He lay there for a moment, before the fact that it was Christmas actually registered with him.

He took a deep breath and rolled over to check what the time was, although when he saw that it was 6am, he frowned deeply.

He did not like waking up this early, he never ever had, and he was half thinking of turning back over and going back to sleep for an hour or two.

But when he heard noises downstairs, he slowly sat up.

He saw quickly that it wasn't Peter downstairs, as he was fast asleep in his bed across the room. It wouldn't be Lucy, as she would've woken everyone up already, he doubted it was his Mum, she never got up til 7 at least.

So that left his Dad or Susan.

Edmund smiled at that thought. This was their first Christmas with their Dad for years. He'd come home only about a month or two ago, and they would finally get to spend the day with him, which they were all really looking forward to.

Climbing quietly from bed so as not to wake Peter, Edmund grabbed his dressing gown and headed downstairs, entering the living room and finding his Dad sat on the sofa reading a newspaper.

After noticing someone was there, John looked up, and smiled at little at his son. "You're up early." He breathed.

Edmund shrugged a little, burying his face into his pockets and walking over, sitting down next to his Dad. "Trust me," He replied. "It's not by choice."

His Dad chuckled. "Merry Christmas Edmund." He said gently.

Edmund teared up at this, he hadn't heard those words come from his Dad in what felt like forever, and he'd missed it so, so much. "Merry Christmas Dad." He choked out.

John smiled, and after placing his newspaper down he pulled Edmund close with one arm. "You're not too old for a hug are you?" He teased gently, knowing Edmund was a lot older than he was when he left.

Edmund laughed. "I'll never be too old don't worry." He breathed. "Although don't tell Peter I said that."

John smirked. "I won't," He said, sounding amused. "Don't worry."

Edmund smiled, resting his head against his Dad's shoulder. "I'm glad you're home for Christmas Dad." He all but whispered.

John nodded, smiling once again. "So am I."
