December 8th. Nightmare before Christmas

☆☆☆

Peter tiptoed across his and his brother's bedroom, trying his hardest to not wake his brother up.

Edmund was currently sleeping peacefully, and Peter didn't want to ruin that, he'd had a nightmare pretty much every night since the first snowfall, and Peter was praying he didn't dream tonight... on Christmas Eve night.

Walking over to his bed, he grabbed his pyjamas, only to completely freeze when he heard Edmund let out a quiet whimper.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Peter quickly turned towards his brother, who was currently now tossing his head back and forth, a distressed look crossing his face.

Dropping his pyjamas, he crossed the room and sat carefully on the edge of Edmund's bed, getting a quiet sob from his brother. "Eddy?" He mumbled softly, trying to sound calm and comforting. "Ed come on, calm down."

Edmund only seemed to get more distressed at the sound of his brother's voice, and Peter's heart broke when tears began rolling down his cheeks and he started muttering under his breath.

"Wake up Ed," Peter said. "Wake up, it's only a dream, I'm right here, just wake up."

After a moment, Peter grabbed Edmunds shoulders and actually sat him up, which was enough to jolt him awake.

Edmund froze, he went completely rigid in Peter's hold, not doing a thing.

"Ed?" Peter murmured, pulling him close. "It's okay, it was only a dream, you're okay now."

A whole minute passed, before Edmund took a deep, shuddering breath. "Pete?" He choked out, moving his head so he could look up at him.

Peter made it a point to give him a gentle smile, nodding his head. "I'm right here." He reassured him. "It was a dream."

Edmund swallowed hard, before more tears made their way down his cheeks and he buried his face against Peter's chest, gripping the side of his stomach so tightly his knuckles went white.

Peter hugged him tightly, sighing. "Does it hurt?" He whispered, knowing that Edmund's scar seemed to ache when the weather turned cold.

Edmund nodded a little, silently crying into Peter's tunic, but he really wasn't making much noise.

"Shhhh," Peter soothed. "Deep breath, it's okay, you're safe now."

Edmund cried for a while, before he sniffed loudly, coughing a few times. "I - I don't want to sleep ever again." He choked out.

Peter sighed, letting his eyes slip shut and placing a kiss to the top of his head. "I'll see what I can do."
