Five months later Alcina stood on the training grounds doing the exercise the doctor said we're safe to do with Fae by her side. During that last month Xavier made sure that she was never alone just in case she had the twins early. The doctor also told them that in the last two months she wouldn't be able to shift because it would cause early labor.
"Slow down Luna. You'll hurt yourself." Fae warned and Alcina rolled her eyes.
"I have a week left and the doctor said I haven't even started to dilate. Squats are supposed to help." She replied squatting down again.
"Luna! Annie said to bring this to you and tell you to drink water so you don't dehydrate." Said Tyler walking into the open field.
"Of course she did. Thanks you bud." Alcina smiled and gave him a side hug before kissing his head. Tyler had been getting clingier the farther along Alcina got which filled her with pride. She loved the kids as though they had come from her.
"Luna, who is that?" He asked pointing to the left side of the field. Following his finger, Alcina squinted before gasping.
"Rogue! Tyler, go!" She yelled shoving the boy behind her and putting herself between the grey and black spotted wolf. It's fur stood up in various places besides the spots where fur was missing. As Fae turned two more wolves, one light brown, the other grey and dark brown, emerged from the woods. Before they could react rogues began coming from the woods, straight towards them.
"Xavier!" Alcina screamed through the mind link and half way across the pack Xavier jumped and ran in her direction. He wasn't sure what it was but something was wrong. Alcina kept one hand on Tyler's arm while trying to keep herself between him and the rogues currently circling them. Fae had shifted into her grey spotted wolf and was growling at the rogues.
The grey and brown wolf jumped in their direction to attack and Fae jumped in the way, engaging in a fight. Once Fae was distracted the grey and black wolf jumped at Alcina and Tyler pushed her away, throwing himself in it's path. He screamed as the wolf bit into his shoulder but quickly shoved it back. With another jump the wolf aimed for Tyler's neck. With one swift move and a sickening crack, Tyler's lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud. Alcina heard her own scream before she felt it rise in her throat. She dropped to her knees, staring at Tyler's body. His eyes once so full of light and hope were completely dull and lifeless. Her adopted son dead to protect her.
The rage built up in Alcina within seconds. She couldn't control her wolf and sage burst forward, shifting into wolf form. She stood over Tyler's body, protecting it and snapping at the wolf who killed him. It lunged forward again and she stepped to the left, barely avoiding it's teeth. She turned preparing for the next attack when a large black wolf jumped over her and slammed into her attacker. Xavier had arrived. With one fluid movement, he snapped the wolf's neck and the other rogues ran back into the woods, disappearing. Alcina nudged Tyler's body with her nose before curling around it, holding him best she could in this form. A sharp pain ripped through her stomach causing her to release a whine. She refused to move from that spot. She had failed him. She failed her pack.
"Alcina? Come back to me." Xavier said appearing at her side in a pair of jeans. She whined and didn't move. "Please, my love. He's gone. We can't help him."
Xavier put his hand on her shoulder and began humming a soothing tune. After a few moments he felt her body shrink and looked to see her sitting on the ground running her fingers through Tyler's hair.
"I failed him. I failed my boy. He died protecting me, xay." She cried and he picked her up bridal style carrying her back to the pack house. On the way Alcina felt another sharp pain that almost made her cry. She felt as though something was trying to break her pelvic bone. The pain stayed for a minute before finally letting up.
She let out a breath when it finally eased but it didn't disappear fully. There was a large amount of pressure in the lower part of her stomach. It wasn't until the next wave of pain hit as they were walking into the pack house that Alcina realized what was happening.
"Xay, it's time. They're coming." She groaned as he lay her on the bed. He froze for a moment, arm still under her legs, and looked at her. His brow furrowed before realization hit and he looked at her swollen belly. His eyes glazed over for a moment then went back to normal.
"The doctor is on her way. Do you want water or maybe a warm bath?" He asked fussing with the pillows behind her.
"No. I want drugs. Get me something for the pain. Oh goddess!" She rolled on her side as another contraction hit. Everything seemed to be moving extremely fast which scared her. Two contractions later the doctor burst through the door, bag in hand.
"Your majesties. Let's have some babies. Are you ready, m'lady?" She asked sitting at the foot of the bed. She had Xavier help Alcina out of her pants and checked her dilation. "Okay, your majesty. Your labor has progressed extremely quickly. I'm afraid there's no time for medication."
Alcina groaned at the news. She had to do this with no pain relief. Ten minutes later Xavier was sitting behind her for support and the doctor below her knees.
"Okay when I say push I want you to bear down with everything you have. Ready? Push!" The doctor demanded and Alcina pushed with everything she had. Leaning back and breathing Alcina felt another contraction about to start. When it finally hit she pushed hard. "First baby is starting to crown."
At this news alcina pushed with everything she had and finally heard a cry. She didn't have time to see but a tuft of black hair before another contraction happened. Annie took the baby and walked to the corner, cleaning him with a towel. This time Alcina pushed for thirty minutes with hardly any progress.
"You can do this, love. It's almost over, keep pushing." Xavier encouraged. Though his words would normally be soothing Alcina found them annoying.
"Why don't you shut it and try pushing a basket ball sized wolf out of your body?" She snapped relaxing for but a moment before pushing again.
"One more big push. Push with everything you have, your majesty. I see the head." The doctor said patting Alcina's knee. With one final push, Alcina gave all she had and finally heard the second cry. "Two boys, your grace. Two princes! You did it."
Alcina felt Xavier move and looked over to see him grabbing the baby from Annie as the doctor handed her the second baby boy. Both boys had jet black hair like their father and hazel eyes like their mother. Alcina felt complete.
