Jack and John sat in their office chipping away at their police work.

John looked up at his boyfriend every now and then, making sure he wasn't getting overwhelmed. John figured out easily that work often caused stress. Being one of the only police officers was hard sometimes.

The station phone began to ring, Jack looks up a little startled. John sighs in annoyance and answers it.

"Hello." He says in a numb and gruff voice. Jack plays with his fingers listening to the conversation.

"Okay.. yes ma'am." John signals for Jack to start getting ready. Jack tilts his head, not understanding.

"C-...Calm down ma'am, we're on our way." John hangs up and with a huff stands up.
"Come on Jack, we have to deal with a domestic dispute." He slips on his jacket and grabs a cigarette lighting it.

"Oh okay, where is it?" Jack asks rushing to John's side.

"Just a few blocks from here, not far." They both leave the station, Jack gets into the driver's side of the car. They begin to drive to the location as John explains the situation to Jack.

When they got onto the street they could tell that they had arrived. A couple screaming at each other, their kids crying and some neighbors watching.

Jack pulls up and they both get out. John immediately went to quiet the people down and try to understand what was going on.

Jack followed behind a bit slowly, god it was loud. He should've brought his headphones to block out the sound.

"Ma'am- Ma'am are you the one who called me?" John asked once he got them to somewhat calm down.

"Oh, so you called the fucking cops on me?! This is so fucking great for the kids to see!" The husband yells, Jack winces at the man's harsh and loud tone.

"Sir, you need to calm down."

"No I need my fucking kids, and for that bitch to leave!" He screamed in John's face. Jack's hands started to get clammy, he closes them and opens them at a slow pace without even realizing it.

"Jack- can you please handle the wife and kids? I'll get the husband." John sighs speaking lowly to Jack.

"Uh-yeah sure," Jack says snapping out of his daze, he leads the wife and her kids over to the other side of the yard. The wife kneels next to her kids and hugs them crying.

Jack pulls out a notebook and pen, he opens to a clean page. He tried his best to ignore John and the husband, along with his approaching headache. He could get through this.

"Hello, ma'am can you please tell me how this dispute started."

"I don't understand why do you need to know that?" She asks with an annoyed but sad tone.
"For the police record ma'am." The wife sighs and rolls her eyes.

She answers a few of his questions. Jack's mind couldn't ignore the husband screaming at John in the background. As he recorded the information the wife was telling him, Jack's chest began to tighten.

Jack turns to his partner, he started to feel a little warm. He takes a deep breath and grabs onto the hem of his sweater, he clenches it and unclenches it.

He felt lightheaded and weak as he walked over, he take a deep breath telling himself that it was better to leave than cause a meltdown.

He needed to tell John though. Before Jack could even reach John the husband punched him in the face.

Jack runs over and tries to contain the husband, unfortunately, the man elbows Jack in the stomach.

Jack drops to the ground, he swore he heard someone call his name but everything sounded muffled. Jack was hyper-aware of the tears filling his eyes and leaking down his face. The pain in his gut was too much, everything was too much.

He didn't make any intent to move himself off the ground. He shuts his eyes, and one of his hands moves to his arm. He digs his nails into his skin doing the same clenching and unclenching motion. A hand touches him, he lets out an audible noise.

The hand lifts off of him, and a pair of headphones are shown to him. He immediately takes them, shoving them into his ears. He felt a little better listening to his favorite music. He looked up and John stood there.

"Come on Jack, let's get you out of here." John goes to help Jack up but he shakes his head, John gives him space. Jack gets up and lets John slowly lead him to the car.

Once inside John grabs a stress ball, he hands it to Jack. Jack stares at the blue stress ball as he squeezes it until he's calmed down enough to stop crying and could breathe regularly. John starts the car and begins to drive.

John takes his eyes off the road at every red light and every small chance he got to make sure Jack was still going well. He pulls into a building's parking lot. John got out of the car leaving Jack alone.

Jack closes his eyes focusing on his breathing, the music, and his stress toy. He was calmed down by the time John came back into the car. Jack leans back in the seat with a sigh, he was tired and his headache was becoming more of a problem.

"Doing better?" John asks, watching his volume. Jack nods a little bit not opening his eyes. John sets a box of donuts in between them.

"Was it the punch that caused it?" John asks starting the car and begins the drive to their home.

"No," Jack almost whispers, "I was beginning to feel it before that."

"I got doughnuts and some water for you." Jack smiles a little, immediately going forward some. He was really hungry and thirsty.

"Thank you," Jack says quietly, John nods.

Once home the pair got home Jack was set up in his room by John. He had checked over his arm and cleaned up the small amount of blood leaking from it.

John made sure the room was dark and his favorite music was playing in the background. Of course not forgetting his doughnuts and water. Just in case he also had a few stress toys.

Jack yawns and cuddles closer to John.
"Thank you." John chuckles at his boyfriend's droopy eyes.

"Of course Jack, now get some rest." Jack gives a small hum already half asleep.

"I love you, Jack."
"Love you too," Jack says half drunk from sleep.
