Abrasive
(adj.) showing little concern for others

A week later

Leaving another photoshoot, I sigh deeply and slide my sunglass on. It's been a week since Maeve and I's fight. We haven't talked since. Well that's not true, I have reached out and tried to apologize for yelling at her and storming out and she has done the same. But, we haven't talked further than that.

I don't know what it is to be honest. Maybe we both are just too stubborn to fix really things, who knows? Either way I don't care anymore. It's time I start focusing more on my myself and my job more than ever.

"You are so hardheaded do you know that?" Brandon says as he slides in the car beside me.

"How so?"

"Maeve" was all he said for me to roll my eyes and check myself out of this conversation. "You both have said sorry but you both don't even mean it."

"I meant mine. I am sorry for yelling and not hearing her through but I'm not sorry for doing what I had to do for you, for me and shit even for her" I reply slide glancing him before focusing my attention outside the window as the car speeds down the street.

"Divine you have to see why she is nervous and anxious with what we have done in the past. I would be uncomfortable too if I was her."

Oh please

"Whatever Brandon. If she wants to stay mad then so be it but I'm not about to kiss up to someone who wants to make her mind up about this before I even had a chance to explain"

He looks at me before shaking his head and turns his head to look out the window. The rest of the ride was spent in awkward and tense silence before the driver pulls up to my favorite restaurant, La Reina.

"Thank you" I politely say to the driver as I exit the car with Brandon doing the same. I decide not to wait for him and enter the divine establishment.

"Divine Lovett?" I look over and instantly smile, rushing over to the older woman. "Oh gosh! I haven't seen you in here in so long. How are you dear?" She exclaims as I embrace her.

"I'm great Siveth! I have missed you"

She grins and leads us to a booth closer to the back, by the window. "I have missed you as well hun. This place feels lonely without the presence of my two favorite customers" she turns to Brandon and hugs him.

"How are you my boy?"

They end up conversing while I stare out the window, watching as people walk past and interact with others around them. I squint my eyes to a figure across the street wearing a cherry red pantsuit with their red hair high up in a bun. I watch as she walks down the street, on the phone talking to someone, and heads into the diner across the street.

I raise an eyebrow and turn to Brandon and Siveth who appear to be laughing at something. "I'll be right back" I tell them quickly before leaving the booth. I leave the restaurant and head across the street after her, entering the small diner.

My eyes gaze over everyone before I find her sitting in the back, her phone now on the table and her eyes focused out the window. I walk over to her and stop in front of her table silently. Sensing my presence, those piercing eyes of hers turn to look at me and I could feel my breath hitch.

"Divine?" She asks confusedly making me give her a faint smile and sit down across from her.

"Hi Maeve"

Placing her hands on the edge of the table gently, she asks me "What are you doing here?" making me shrug my shoulders lightly and lean back in my seat.

"I saw you come in here so I followed you in, in hopes of talking to you" I reply, tilting my head to the side some as I watch her. I notice how she slightly tenses at my words and nods her head.

"We do need to talk"

A waitress appears in front of the table and asks us for our drink orders. "I'm fine thank you" I tell her and look back at Maeve who asks for a strawberry milkshake.

"Of course" The waitress says as she walks it down and gives us both a warm smile. She asks if we are ready to order to which we both shake our heads no.

Silence

The waitress leaves us alone with a promise that her shake will be out soon. Maeve refuses to meet my glaze making me slightly smirk and clear my throat.

"I want to just say—"

She interrupts me. "Can we do this other time? I don't have that much time for a conversation like this. I need to get back to work soon"

Am I hurt? Yes

So I just nod my head and she thanks me.

"I'll be at your place at seven" I tell her as I get out from my seat. "I know we need to talk but just know I still love you however this talk goes." I lean down to kiss her cheek and leave the restaurant.

I feel like this is serious but at the same time it really shouldn't be this serious.
