Abscond
(v.) to secretly depart and hide oneself
THIRD PERSON

Maeve's ears began to ring slightly and her mouth became mute. Her slightly became blurry. She saw her Divine. Laid up in the small hospital bed, hooked on wires. Maeve only saw her.

Maeve's eyes watered more and more as she stared at her girlfriend. How could this happen? Why her? Thoughts running through Maeve's head saddened her more and more.

Then the knob slowly turned and the door creeped open. "Maeve" a voice called out to her causing a slight twitch of her left eye. She slowly turned to her head to look at the person.

Precious stood before her, looking over at her in concern. "How are you doing?" She asked redhead who only looked back at Divine.

"I don't know the answer to that question" was Maeve's response.

Precious pressed her lips together in a tight lipped smile before walking over to Divine. She stared down at her sister, taking her cold hand gently in hers. "This should have never happened to you sis" She tells her sister in a hush whisper.

Precious then bends her head down to kiss Divine's cheek before sitting down in the pale blue chair. "What happened?" Precious asked Maeve, not tearing her eyes away from her sister.

"We went to a small get together that turned into a party. We were having a great time but I had to use the bathroom, so I told Divine to wait for me outside the bathroom" Maeve begins to explain last night but pauses as she starts to get choked up.

"Hello?"

Divine looks around her with a confused look upon her face. She wore a white sundress with her hair pinned in a nice low bun. She wore simple gold jewelry and a beautiful golden ring on her finger.

"Divine" at the sound of her name, Divine turns around to see Maeve standing not that far out into the distance. A smile immediately breaks out of her face and Divine whispers the name of her love.

Maeve

"I couldn't find her anywhere. I searched for her downstairs in hopes of finding her but nothing. When I was finally ready to give up, I saw a man come downstairs and I remembered there were bedrooms upstairs. So I went upstairs and I-I found her in one of the rooms." Maeve pauses and wipes a tear from her eye.

Precious clears her throat at her words and sighs. She tears her eyes away from her sister and looks at the heart broken Maeve. She knew then and there that Maeve was blaming herself or what happened.

"It's not your fault" were the only words Precious could give her before her lips fell silent. She closes her eyes for a moment and gently rubs her thumb back and forth on the back of Divine's cold hand.

Maeve stood up for a moment and sniffles through her tears. "I'm going to get some air" She says before disappearing out the door.

Precious doesn't move to follow her only pays attention to her comatose older sister. "She needs you Divine, we all do." She whispers as she lays her head down on the white linen sheets next her hand holding Divine's hand.

"Maeve wait" Divine calls out to her girlfriend as she rushes after her retreating self. Maeve didn't reply only kept walking away.

"Maeve!" Divine calls out once more before falling to her hands and knees. She pants heavily  stretching her hand out in hope it would reach her.

"Maeve!"

It's been two weeks since Divine has been in a coma. Maeve was growing restless she couldn't even visit Divine anymore. Every time she even thought about her girlfriend she would break out into tears and cry until she couldn't cry anymore.

"She's not getting any better" Maeve heard Precious cry to her brother when they were on the phone a few nights ago.

"She sits in her room and cries all night for Divine. I can't sit here and watch my friend lose herself over this"

Maeve sighs at Precious' words and walks to the kitchen, not wanting to hear anymore. It hurt her to know that Precious could hear her crying about Divine.

Maeve looks out the window of her office and sighs. She thought that if she came to work then maybe she could distract herself from thinking about Divine.

It didn't help.

A knock sounded on her office door causing Maeve to look over. "I thought I might pay you a little visit" Adria said as she smiles at her best friend.

"I'm not really in the mood Dria"

Adria walks over to her and grabs Maeve's hand, pulling her up. "What are yo—" Maeve is cut off by Adria pulling her into her arms, hugging her tight.

"I love you"

What the fuck?

"I love you too" Maeve replies, a little confused on the sudden heart to heart. She rubs her friend's back softly and repeats the words in her ear.

"She's going to be okay" Adria then says and shakes her head with a sigh. "I don't want you sitting here or at home with negative thoughts of Divine's progress in the back of your mind. She's going to be okay, you're going to be okay."

Adria pulls away with a scoff. "You don't know that" She says as she turns away and sits back down.

"You don't know it either Maeve!"

Silence

Maeve stares down at her desk, slowly shaking her head. "Adria please" She sighs and runs a tired hand down her face.

"No Maeve. You are walking around here all moping and sad thinking the worst when you don't know if the worst is even going to happen!"

She kneels down beside her friend and puts her hand on her thigh gently. "Maeve you can't go through life always thinking the negative before the positive."

"Yes I can!" Maeve suddenly yells and pushes Adria away. "Life isn't sunshine and rainbows Adria! Shit happens and you have to prepare yourself for the shit to happen! I can't walk around thinking nothing is going to ever happen because it's a lie bad shit always happens Adria."

"If you don't have faith that Divine will recover then who will?"

Maeve chuckles and stands up, walking toward the window. "You think I don't have faith? That I don't hope to get that call that she's awake? I hope and pray for that moment to come every second of the day."

"Maev—"

"No!" She turns to her friend angrily. "I hope and pray for Divine to recover more than anyone. I need her here with me. I need to see her beautiful eyes looking into mine once more. I need her lips against mine. I need her!"

She looks down at her phone, at the picture of Divine smiling on her lock screen. "I need her Adria. I-I can't lose her again. She l-left me once she can't leave m-me again" With tears pricking her eyes, Maeve shook her head repeatedly.

"I can't lose her again Adria. I can't." Adria rushes over to her as she cries. Her lips repeating the same thing over and over again.

I can't lose her again.
