As all the drivers were staying in the same hotel me and Charles decided to head out early the next morning to avoid everyone. I was so appreciative to have him around, he really was a great distraction to stop me thinking about Max. It was so easy with Charles no expectations or arguments, we got along so well I felt relaxed around him. As we had breakfast my phone buzzed, I looked down to see a message from Max.
Max: Can we talk?
Me: Just leave me alone
I couldn't understand why he now wanted to talk to me after letting me walk away and not once trying to contact me. What had changed now?. I was lost in thought when Charles started talking bringing me back down to reality.
"Sorry what?" I didn't hear a word he'd said.
"Let's go karting" Charles said laughing, clearly picking up on the fact that I wasn't listening.
"I've never been before" I replied.
His eyes widened and he looked surprised "wait you dated an f1 driver and never went karting" he replied laughing. "Did you and Max ever actually do anything fun together?" He continued, Charles had a bemused look on his face.
I'd never really thought about it till now. Max was always so focused on training and racing last season that the time we did spend together we never really did anything.
I was absolutely horrendous at karting, it wasn't surprising as I could barely drive a car let alone a go kart. Despite that I had the best time.
"Your actually a lot of fun when your not around Max" he said as he helped me take my helmet off.
"oh thanks" I replied laughing, as I pushed him slightly.
"No I didn't mean it like that, you were just always kind of glued to him. It's nice to actually get to know you for who you are" he was right I was always so focused on me and Max I'd never really given myself to get to know everyone and just enjoy the experiences of travelling round the world.
As we arrived back to the hotel Pierre and Caterina were just heading out.
"We've been looking for you two" Pierre said flashing his smile.
"We've been karting" Charles replied beaming at Pierre.
"We wanted to know if you wanted to join us for dinner tonight" Pierre asked as he winked at Charles
"I'd love to but I have to fly to the UK in a few hours Yeah I have to work" I replied smiling.
I could have sworn Charles looked a little disappointed, I didn't pay too much attention to it though.
"How about after testing is over?" Charles' expression instantly changed and he just nodded in agreement.
