March 31, 2021 (28 weeks and a day)
The following morning, Brook and I met with Trevor and my mom in court. Fans and paparazzi were lining the court entrance screaming and snapping photos of us. I led Brook into the courtroom and took our seats with Hanna and her team sat on their side. Trevor got up as he was the frost to begin to the case. Both sides went back and forth arguing their case before the judge called for a 15 minute break.
"I hope you know you're not going to win," Hanna said as she walked towards us but mom and Trevor pulled Brook and I away as to not speak with the enemy.
"Don't say a word to her," Trevor said and we nodded, "if the judge or anyone sees you talking to her whether it be to cuss her out or not they will think this case is useless and will drop all charges against her."
"We know," I said as Brook held my hand as the other rubbed circles on her belly. We were getting closer and closer to her due date and the doctors have told us that she needed to be in a stress free environment but my girlfriend refuses to stay back and be present during our defamation trial.
"Once this is over," Mom said looking at Brook who blinked, "you will not be involved in the trial against the paparazzi and gossip article that filtered a photo of Grayson."
"Addison is right," Trevor stated when Brook went to speak and I gave her hand a squeeze and nodded my agreement with them and she sighed, "this case is stressful as it is and we don't what anything to happen to you and the baby."
"Okay, if you think that's the right choice then I won't be involved," Brook said, "I just want this whole thing to be over and done with already."
"And it will," mom said, "there's not much Hanna's lawyers can do to win this case."
15 minutes later we were once again in the court room listening to witness after witness and evidence after evidence that proved Hanna was lying and conniving.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury," Trevor said as he spoke jury involve with our case, "when news broke out that My clarinets, Mr. Rodriguez and Miss Payne, were dating and expecting their first chicks together, Miss Carson has taken it upon herself to try to break them up." He looked at the hurry as he pointed at Hanna who clenched her jaw, "you've heard the witness confess that Miss Montez has been planning to ruin Miss Payne's image by calling her a home wrecker when Mr. Rodriguez and Miss Montez were never together. She has made claims again them because of her jealousy and she even went ahead and sold a photo of a child without my client's consent. She is guilty of ruining their image. Miss Payne has been forced to be on bed rest due to her pregnancy now being considered high risk due to the stress Miss Montez has caused her by spreading false news."
Hanna smiled at the news while I clenched my jaw.
"Both Miss Payne and Mr. Rodriguez are asking that Miss Montez pay them the money she made from the photo she took and sold as well as from the stories she spread. She sold the photo of the child for 40.5 million dollars while the stories she spread were each sold for 100 million dollars," Hanna looked at her lawyer with wide eyes at hearing the amount she'll have to pay but she didn't hear the final amount, "my clients are asking she pay them a totally of 800 million dollars as that is how much she made from the rumors and the photo of Miss Payne and her 2 year old son. And if Miss Montez fails to pay, my clients want her to be jailed for five years. That's all your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury."
Trevor walked towards our table and sat down while Hanna's layer went up and spoke about how Hanna was a good girl and that she was mentally unstable and that she only did what she did because she was unstable and that she shouldn't have to pay us anything and that it should be us paying her for all the emotional damage that Brook and I caused her when we got together which by the way is total bullshit if you ask me. I frowned the rest of his idiotic speech until the sound of doors opening and shutting echoed in the courtroom making me look towards the jury stand to see it empty.
"We will return for verdict in two hours," the judge said before she stood and stepped down from her place behind the mahogany desk. The four of us walked out do the court room and decided to go to a local diner down the court house for lunch.
"Claiming mental health illness is ridiculous," Mom said as she sat across from Brook and I with Trevor sitting beside her, "she knew right from wrong and yet she still did it."
"But what if the jury buy her claim?" Brook asked but Trevor shook his head.
"The evidence speaks for themselves, Brook," he said and she nodded biting her bottom lip and I gave her thing a light squeeze making her look over at me and I gave her a reassuring smile that her nodding and return the gesture, "now let's get something to eat before we return."
****
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury," the judge spoke two hours later as we stood in the courtroom waiting for the verdict, "have you decided on your verdict?"
"We have your honor," a male jury said as he was the juries representative.
"And what is your verdict?"
"Guilty of all charges," he replied and I closed my eyes as Brook leaned against me in relief.
"And your reasoning?" The older woman asked as she looked at the jury.
"The evidence spoke for themselves, your honor," he stated, "and we all agreed that using mental health issues as an excuse is wrong as Miss Montez knew what she was doing and she had planned it since the plaintiffs have begun their romance."
The judge nodded and dismissed the jury before turning to us, "I agree with the jurors," she stated and Hanna and her legal team gasped at her words making me roll my eyes, what did they expect? That she would side with her and make us pay her? She ruined our image that it will take time for us to regain our fans trust again and for those articles to be put in the back burner.
"I grant the claimant its entirety because I believe that the defendant knew what she was doing when she decided to sell a photo of a minor without his parents authorization and for having sold false stories to various outlets to defame the claimants. Miss Montez has 90 days to pay the sum of 800 million dollars to Miss Payne and Mr. Rodriguez if she fails to do so, she will be taken into custody and will serve a 10 year sentence." She said and I looked at Brook who was smiling, "that is my decision, court is adjourned." She hit the gravel on the stand cutting Hanna's lawyer off.
"We did it." Brook whispered as tears rolled down her cheeks and I smiled and quickly wiped them away.
"We did."I agreed before pressing a kiss to her forehead, "one win down, one more to go."
