Davina was at Granny's Dinner, reading the newspaper and eating the apple that Alicent gave her. Aemond came up and delivered her a cocoa.
"Here you go." Aemond remarked putting it on the table before her.
"Thank you. But I did not order that." Davina countered.
"Yeah, I know. You have an admirer." Aemond chuckled as he left. Davina glanced around and saw Criston at another table. She walked over and put the cocoa in front of him. His gaze drifted up to her.
"Ah, so you decided to stay." Criston remarked smiling pleasantly back at her.
"Observant." Davina replied stiffly. "Important for a cop." She added as Criston chuckled.
"It's good news for our tourist business, it's bad for our local signage." Criston mused, Davina stared back at him. "It's... It's a joke... It's because you ran over our sign." Criston reminded her.
"Look, the cocoa was a nice gesture, and I am impressed that you guessed that I like cinnamon on my chocolate because most people don't, but I am not here to flirt." Davina informed him, Criston looked to the mug confused. "So thank you, but no thank you."
"I didn't send it." Criston corrected and Hazel perked up from another booth.
"I did. I like cinnamon, too." Hazel remarked waving back at her.
"Don't you have school?" Davina countered moving to Hazel.
"Duh. I'm ten." Hazel reminded her as she pulled her backpack on and headed out. "Walk me."
" So, what's the deal with you and your mom?" Davina questioned as they walked to the bus stop, Luke and Jace waved back at her when they saw Hazel coming.
"It's not about us, it's about her curse. We have to break it." Hazel remarked waving back at them. "Luckily, I have a plan." Davina chuckled as she glanced to the boys smiling back at them. "Step one – identification. I call it Operation Carrot Cake."
"Carrot cake? That has nothing to do with fairy tales." Davina countered and Hazel chuckled. "I love carrot cake though."
"Exactly. It's a code name to throw the Queen off the trail, I love carrot cake too." Hazel informed her.
"So, everyone here is a fairy tale character. They just don't know it." Davina repeated.
"That's the curse. Time's been frozen – until you got here." Hazel declared, Davina lifted her apple to her lips but Hazel screamed out. "Hey! Where'd you get that?"
"Your mom." Davina answered slowly.
"Don't eat that!" Hazel took the apple from Davina and threw it over her shoulder. Davina glanced back as it rolled down the sidewalk.
"Okay, uh... Alright. What about their pasts?" Davina offered.
"They don't know. It's a haze to them. Ask anyone anything. And you'll see." Hazel suggested
"So, for decades, people have been walking around in a haze, not aging, with screwed up memories, stuck in a cursed town that kept them oblivious." davina offered
"I knew you'd get it. That's why we need you. You're the only one who can stop her curse." Hazel told her victoriously.
"Because I'm the sister of the king?" Davina offered.
"Because you fight for whats right, you risked your life, ran into a blazing fire, you were trying to save him which is why you can save us!" Hazel declared. "And right now, we have the advantage. My mom doesn't know that. I took out the end. The part with you in it, how the story ends."
"Kid..." Davina rasped staring down at her feet as they walked.
"I know the hero never believes at first. If they did, it wouldn't be a very good story. If you need proof, take them. Read them. But whatever you do, don't let her see these pages. They're dangerous. If she finds out who you are, then it would be bad." Hazel begged thrusting the pages at her.
"This is your mom?" Luke asked as the bus pulled up.
"Davina." She offered.
"This is my boyfriend." Hazel informed her confidently.
"Boyfriend?" Davina questioned happily.
"Don't tell my mom about that either." Hazel requested. "I got to go. But I'll find you later and we can get started. I knew you'd believe me!" Hazel declared as she grabbed Luke's hand.
"I never said I did." Davina called after her.
"Why else would you be here?" Hazel countered sticking her head out of the bus window. "Operation carrot cake, commence!"
