Prom—for some, they claim it is the best night of their lives, and for others, it is just another social gathering. The prom at the X-Mansion worked a little differently than your standard prom. Since Xavier's had students of all ages, they had designated rooms for certain age groups. This way everyone got to experience Prom regardless of their age.
First, students aged 11 through 14 were housed in the dining hall.
Then, ages 15 through 17 were assigned to the parlor room.
Lastly, ages 18 and up were located on the basketball court, and even though the X-Jet is located underneath it, the basketball court was the only place big enough to accommodate everyone.
Of course, there were some exceptions, such as if your date was older than you, in which case you got to decide which spot you wanted to go to, or if you were an X-Men yourself, then you would be able to choose which location, and even if an X-Men opted out of going, they could still be a supervisor for the event.
Now, Peter didn't have the best first prom experience when he was going to regular school. His mom encouraged him to go, but he chose to stay home, play video games, and watch television. He kicked himself for not going the first time because it proved that he was a loser, not to mention the girl he tried asking out rejected him with a blunt "Ew, no!" and walked away. He never felt more dejected than he did at that moment. He vowed from that point on to be flirtatious and have fun with a girl, but never fall in love with any girl unless he knew they liked him back.
When you showed up at the X-Mansion, though, he threw that rule out the window because he had fallen hopelessly in love with you. You and he had similar tastes in things like music, television shows, video games, movies, and even board games. Yes, Maximoff likes a good board game, especially if it involves fun competition. This was a surefire sign he knew you were the one. Also, he loved that you weren't afraid to be different—an oddball mutant who was a major foodie. He loved every inch of your intriguing personality, for that matter.
So when the week before prom came around, he knew he had to ask you. However, he was nervous because of the fear of another potential rejection. He rushed over to Jean's room and banged on her door loudly. She opened it and was surprised to see Peter, as he was certainly not the person she was expecting. "What's going on, Peter?" She wondered. Peter sped over and laid down on her bed with his arms covering his eyes. "I want to ask Y/N to prom, but I am worried that she will say no," Peter confessed.
"Aw, hey, give it a shot; you won't know unless you try!" Jean exclaimed. "Well, how should I do it? I don't want to go all out only for her to say no!" Peter asked. "Don't worry about making it a grand ordeal. Sometimes simple and personal is the way to go. I know that you and she have things in common; perhaps ask her with a poster that contains a joke or a reference that you both understand," Jean said. "Can you help me work on it?" Peter questioned. "Of course! I have some free time now if you want to start working on it," Jean proclaimed. "Thanks, Jean, you're the best!" Peter chirped before jumping out of bed and hugging her. "No problem! I should be able to get a poster and markers from the art room," Jean noted. They wrote down a list of subject ideas before finally settling on one. Peter sped out of the X-Mansion to grab a "tool" for the project but was back in ten minutes. Altogether It took them about forty minutes to get the project done, but in the end, it all worked out.
"I think I am going to ask her today, but when?" Peter thought aloud. "If I were you, I would do it when she least anticipated it. Perhaps you should do it after her last class when she's ready to leave, and then bam! Hit her with the question," Jean proclaimed. "I'll take that into consideration; thanks, Jean," Peter said. "You're welcome," Jean stated. Peter then waited until your classes were over, which was only thirty minutes, but to him, it felt like hours and met you outside your last class for the day.
