Song : Swim - Chase Atlantic
~ Alejandra ~
A bittersweet taste has been stuck in my mouth since we've woken up.
Even throughout the sunny day spent lounging by the pool, talking and laughing, that unpleasant flavor is still swirling on my tongue as Nayah and I get ready for our last dinner in DR.
"What time do you wanna get up tomorrow to get the rest of our stuff together?" Anayah asks me as she leans over the bathroom counter to watch as she uses a tiny highlighter brush to add a gold shine on her nose.
I turn away from the mirror I was looking into while applying my lip stick to semi-pout at her. "Never."
She nods in immediate agreement. "Seriously, we need to come back here soon with just us."
My brow lifts along with the side of my lips, looking at her with a sly smile.
"You bringing along your boyfriend for our next getaway?" I ask to tease her, but am still curious at the same time.
Looking up from the mirror, I watch her actively ignore me as she runs a clear gloss carefully over her lips.
This only makes me want to ask more questions.
This whole trip, they've been all close and flirty, giving each other longing, innocent glances that they think none of us notice.
Yet, throughout this whole week away, I still don't think either of them have made their feelings obvious to each other rather than everyone else.
What's stopping either of them from just saying something?
After using the pad of my finger to blend the light brown of my liner into the nude of my lipstick, I straighten my posture to fully look at myself.
Only a few nights ago, we were just arriving, so anxious about getting ready, about how we would look.
Now, and every night since, we've dressed ourselves up with more confidence than ever, taking hours each evening to make sure every aspect of us looks perfect.
The feeling of looking in the mirror, seeing a version of myself that reminds me of the best parts of my mother, is a beautifully indescribable feeling.
It's an even better feeling than seeing the look in Gabriel's eyes when I've walked down the stairs to the lobby each evening before dinner, though it does come close.
A giddy feeling bubbles in my chest as I wait to show him the dress.
Saving the best for last, I obviously waited until the last dinner to wear the dress he got me. It looks even prettier than I thought it would.
Without giving my face another glance, I stare down at the dress in the mirror, fiddling with the end of its skirt as I smile. I like green more and more everyday.
"You have no room to be talking with that look on your face," Nayah appears from behind me, pointing an accusatory manicured finger at my reflection.
Trying to keep my lips from curving up, I roll my eyes and turn to sit on the edge of Nayah's bed.
"Avoidant much?" I ask with a sly smirk on my face.
While part of me knows that Nayah always has a good reason for everything, the other part of me really wants to know what it is in this case.
I'm the nosy best friend. She signed up for it.
Responding only with a roll of her eyes, I'm told that she's not going to give into my annoying and prying tactics.
