One year later

After spending the whole year learning Deutsch , she's finally ready to enroll in the new college and start her life anew in Germany.

Throughout this year, she has also went regularly to a therapist and even joined some support groups.

Today, is her first day at college.
Mark drops her off and wishes her luck on her new journey.
She starts exploring the campus, in awe of how huge it is.
She crosses paths with many students, all looking so different.
She can't deny that it feels good to start from scratch, in a place where no one knows anything about her. It feels liberating in a way.
Lost in her thoughts, she accidently bumps into a girl.
"I'm so sorry!" She quickly apologizes.
"It's fine." The other girl responds kindly. She then extands her hand to her "I'm Maude. What's your name?"
"Diane." She shakes her hand firmly.
"Foreigner ?"
"Yes, I'm from Canada."
"Nice to meet you. Is it your first day here?"
"Yeah."
"Don't worry, let me show you around."

And that's how her first day at college went. Totally not what she expected.

Time passes, days go by at the blink of an eye..

She can't even begin to describe how excited she is that she has chosen litterature as her major.
She doesn't regret changing majors after almost graduating from her previous college,  not even one bit.

She also started working on a novel.
It's almost done. Mark and Jina think that she should actually publish it but she doesn't agree. Not before she makes sure it's perfect.

After a long day at college, she sits on her bed, her diary and favorite pen in hand.

"Today, I raised my hand in class for the first time ever since I came here.
It was nerve-wracking and I felt so self-conscious. Glady, no one made fun of me.
I thought Maude was ignoring me the whole day and kept trying to figure out what I did wrong the whole time, turns out she was sick and even had to be absent for the rest of the classes.
Silly me! I still always take things personally no matter how hard I try not to.
Some students are so mean, they laugh at my accent and always talk about things I don't understand. Others are friendly, they make sure I'm never leftout or overlooked.
Some teachers are amazing, others are so-so, while some others make me feel like hell is empty, cause all the devils are out here.
I'm going to get my driver's licence soon. I'm so nervous about it.
I love the new therapist I'm seeing. She makes me feel comfortable.
I'm still working on my novel. Mark says I should publish it, but I don't think it's good enough.
Besides, I still haven't chosen a good title for it.
It's about a girl who celebrates her birthday all by herself, and after making a wish , she wakes up the next day , in a magical reality where she has everything she has ever wished for.
After meeting some amazing people who teach her a great lesson, life gives her a chance to be alive again.
She wakes up and everything changes for real this time.
The wish she made that lonely night, was heard after all.
Well, I'm not sure what would be a suitable name for such a story..
I still feel lonely. I long for my country most of the days. And I still feel like I don't belong with the rest of my classmates.
My shoelaces will go untied and I would lose it, so yeah , I still supress my feelings and then explode at any minor inconvenience.
I'm still me, Diane.
But I tried. I tried to improve what I could, and I've made a lot of progress.
I thought being miserable was the only way to be, turns out , many feelings can co-exist at the same time , and I can be many things all at the same time.
Nowadays, I try to make things easier for myself.
Now, I have to go. It's my birthday today and I promised my brother I'd celebrate it with him and his family."

Soon enough, Diane is already at Mark's house. She feels touched seeing the beautiful decoration and everything they prepared.

"Come on Diane, blow off your candles." She eagrly does.
And after a few seconds of silence, she turns to her family out of the blue and declares " I'm gonna name it Birthday Blues!"
"What?"
"My novel. I finally thought of a good title for it."
"All of a sudden?"
"I just made a wish. It was for my novel to be successful, and for me to think about a great name and it just came to my mind in a minute!"

"Birthday Blues.. Sounds like a great name. I can already sense it's gonna be a hit."
