the boys came home that night to a set table and smiling faces.

"oh my gosh, you didn't need to do this barbra." luke smiled as he sat down.

"it's the least i could do for you guys letting us stay here rent free." mom smiled brightly.

the rest of the boys sat down and we began to eat.

"holy fuck this is the best chicken i've had in years." calum spoke as he began to shovel it into his mouth.

"looks like someone didn't learn table manners." i spoke under my breath.

"what?" calum asked immediately shooting daggers at me.

"in my defense, you make it so easy." i pointed out with a slight chuckle.

"why do we argue like this." calum groaned as he sat up straight.

"i don't know, why do you feel the need to argue with a 16 year old?" i asked.

"b- "enough! you guys argue like you're little kids." mom spoke with an eye roll.

i sent a small glare at calum before finishing my food.

i excused myself from the table after i was done eating and ran up to my room.

i looked happy down there and i was, but that sinking feeling in my chest wouldn't go away.

i heard a soft knock on the door and i turned around to see ashton standing there.

"hey what's up?" i asked softly.

"nothing much, just wanted to check in on you. you seem off." ashton pointed out as he leaned against the door frame.

"i'm just worried. i have this terrible feeling right now that i can't shake for the life of me." i spoke stiffly.

"explain." he spoke as he sat down at my desk.

"remember how i told you that you didn't know how my mom was after luke left?" i spoke softly.

ashton nodded slowly.

"well, there's more too it. i don't know how comfortable i feel having them living to- "indigo what the fuck are you talking about?" mom spoke firmly as she walked into my room.

"n-nothing." i stuttered as i immediately looked towards the ground.

"she was just ranting to me barbra. nothing to worry about. that's what i'm here for." ashton spoke quickly in my defense.

"don't defend her! i told you to never tell anyone about that!" mom yelled as she walked towards me.

i immediately flinched back before looking at her, "i didn't say anything."

"you lying b- "what the heck is going on up here?" luke asked as he calum and michael ran upstairs after the yelling broke loose.

"nothing we need to all calm down now." ashton spoke as he tried to calm down my mom.

"come here now! we are going to have a talk." mom spit out as she grabbed for me.

ashton quickly put himself in between mom and i and stood his ground.

"not until you calm down. a little help here?" ashton spoke as he motioned for the other boys to help.

luke quickly grabbed my mom's wrist and started to drag her out.

"i swear on my life! if you say a single damn thing to them i will kill you!" mom yelled as she whipped her arm away from luke and stormed out of the room.

"i- "just leave. all of you. make sure she's okay." i whispered as i pointed towards the door.

"i don't feel comfortable leaving you alone right now." ashton replied softly.

"yeah? well i don't feel comfortable talking about this right now, so leave." i spoke firmly as i pointed at the door again.

ashton hesitantly nodded before pushing all of them out of the room and shutting my door softly.

the second they left the room, i broke down in hysterical sobs.

this wasn't going to work.

luke's pov

"she can't just yell at her like that. indigo didn't do anything." i spoke firmly as i went to go to my ex-wife's room and give her a piece of my mind.

michael quickly grabbed my arm and shook his head.

"i wouldn't do that if i were you. just give them a second to cool off." he spoke quickly.

i sighed and began to walk downstairs to sit on the couch just for ashton to catch my arm again.

"hey, i think we need to dig deeper into what happened when you left because whatever happened is greatly disturbing indigo and making barbra mad." he spoke swiftly.

i nodded in agreement.

a part of me didn't want to go back because of all the old wounds, but the other part of me would do whatever it takes to make sure my daughter has a peace of mind.
