My first time going to a film competition was amazing. It was an amateur one, so it was smaller than typical, but there was still a multitude of good work. One won an award for "best special effects", because of the CGI asteroid they managed to make look stunning. My favorite of the entries actually ended up being the overall winner. The stop-motion animation told the story of a spider and rodent's adventures as they attempt to win a bobsled race, wanting to receive the prize of a boysenberry bush. It was the first displayed at showtime and the thing just stayed in my mind like a buoy above water. My gut told me I had to meet the creator. When I did, they showed me their reel and I was stunned into pure bliss.
