I startled awake to a knock at my bedroom door. "Honey, get up, it's 1:00!" my mom shouted through the door.
"I'm awake! I'm awake!" I called back.
"Alright, I left the cereal out on the table for you," I listened to my mom talk as I hastily pulled on a pair of blue jeans and the first t-shirt I found in my drawer. I heard the vacuum start running downstairs and decided I'd help my mom with the chores today. So, after a bowl of cereal, I started pulling the clean dishes from the dishwasher and putting them away, putting the dirty dishes in their place. I then "fixed" the hole in my shoe with some scotch tape I'd found and I went to bed that night feeling like I'd accomplished something. I found pride in the teamwork my mom and I had demonstrated that day.
