The annoying pattern of beeping sparked her awake. [Name] was slowly becoming conscious; her senses were taking turns functioning after a long, heavy sleep and her limbs were still numb. The familiar sound of cartoons made her to twitch, and just by the sound of the squeaky voices and catchy songs, she knew right away it was Mia's favorite morning cartoon.
                              Ugh... The Backyardigans. Again.
Then she felt warmth on her left arm, a slight weight gently settled on the left side of her chest close to her breast, and scrunched her nose when she caught the scent of a familiar aroma.
Honey... Her brows pinched together and tilted her head to the side, sighing out softly. Mia needs to stop eating pancakes.
"Oh, lookie, she's awake," a hushed voice said and the weight on her left side shifted.
Her eyelids opened slightly to a window of blur and blinked a few times until finally her vision cleared, opening her eyes completely. She grimaced to find a white wall, a single door to a bathroom and The Backyardigans showing on the flat screen high on the wall.
                              "Mama?"
[Name] lazily lowered her eyes and found Mia smiling wide. "Hey..." she said weakly, although happy to see her safe. "What are you...?"
"Mama, you promised you'd be back to Grandma's house," Mia pouted, and she tried to sit up.
                              "Yeah, I'm sorry- ow..."
"Careful, don't move too much!" A hand pushed her back down on the bed and she looked to her right, finding that the owner of that voice belonged to her own sister, Dana. Even more confusion struck her but smiled to see her little sister after a long time.
"How are you feeling, sis?" Dana asked while stroking her hair. [Name] carefully lifted her left arm to cover Mia's left ear and covered her right one by pulling Mia at her chest.
"Like S-H-I-T," [Name] spelled out quickly so Mia won't catch on and released her so she could hear her show again.
"Heh, you look like shit too-GAH!" Dana yelped after being whacked upside the head with a metal-like object due to the clinging sound it made on impact.
"Language, young lady!" hissed another scolding voice behind the hospital curtain. A frowning Mikoto joined the room, holding up a random, glistening spoon (the weapon of choice) between her thumb and forefinger. "I don't want my granddaughter developing potty mouth, thank you very much."
Dana was too busy grumbling and rubbing the throb at the back of her head to even respond, so Mikoto turned to [Name] (who doesn't even realize what just happened since she was still out of it) and smiled, back to the sweet ol' Mikoto. "Glad you're awake, dear. Everyone is waiting for you in the lobby; I just came to take Mia to lunch now."
[Name] nodded and patted Mia's head, encouraging her to go. Mia kissed her cheek and obediently climbed off the hospital bed, following Mikoto out of the room. Now the two sisters had the chance to talk privately.
"What are you doing here, Dana? Weren't you in New York?"
"Well, I got a call from this hospital and as soon as I heard '[Name]' and 'hospital' on the same sentence, I flew here right away. Check it out—" She lifted her right hand with a giggle, showing off the white bracelet around her wrist. "Turns out we have the same blood type so I gifted you some blood~"
Blood... transfusion? The sudden image of what happened at the Boardwalk flashed in her memory: Vin's glistening gun, she lunging herself at Itachi and screaming his name, before the gun went off... Jolting at the remembrance of the bullet pain wringing at her back, [Name] gasped and suddenly sat up.
