"König!"
I walk around the wooded area, looking for my partner in crime.
"Please, tell me you're ok..."
I yell out to hear no response. As I keep walking, I see a burning building. A building I'm familiar with all too well.
When realization hit, I tried to run away from it, but anywhere I turned, it seemed to get closer and closer.
I had no other choice but to go in.
I open the burning door, my hands immune to the burning flames, and see someone inside. König. Why would he be here of all places?
He stands there, back turned to me.
"Thank God I finally found you. We need to go, now. They're after us."
I don't know who's the 'they' I'm talking about, but I feel terrified.
"Doctor. You were supposed to save me, not hurt me. You killed me, doctor," he turns to me, slowly taking of his mask.
"I didn't mean to! Please, come with me. We'll be ok."
Once he fully took off his mask, I screamed.
-
My own scream jolted me awake with someone desperately calling out my name.
"Y/N!"
I look over to the source of the voice in a panic and see König, kneeling next to my bed, his hands on my shoulders.
I guess the night terrors hadn't stopped after all.
"What are you doing here?"
"I was walking back from the bathroom when I heard you scream. Are you ok, Ärztin?"
His voice was softer than that of König in my nightmare, and his eyes held worry for me, and not hatred, which calmed me down a bit.
I look down at my hands, embarassed.
"Yes. I'm sorry I disturbed you, König. I just had a bad dream," I chuckled to ease the anxiety bubbling up inside of me.
He nodded his head.
"That's alright. Just needed to know you're safe," he got up and walked towards the door.
I looked at him, felt the need to ask him to stay with me, but that would be extremely inappropriate seeing as we had only met yesterday and are not even friends, so I let him go.
My head hits the pillow. König brought me comfort no other person had, not since my parents left me. Even though he looked intimidating, he seemed very timid, but confident at the same time. A weird guy.
I slept through the night, the same nightmare repeating itself over and over again. Didn't matter if I woke up. When I fell asleep, it continued.
My alarm woke me up, and I felt like I wanted to murder someone.
I groggily wake up and do my morning routine, which consisted of taking a warm shower and skin care.
I wear some comfy clothes and throw on my lab coat so I look at least a little bit fancy and not like a homeless person.
As I am walking to the canteen to get some tea, I see a familiar giant walking in the direction of my lab.
I don't feel like having anyone in my space at the moment so I continue my path to get tea, while König enters my lab.
With tea in hand, I start walking to my lab when suddenly someone stands right in front of me. The guy that showed me around the base on my first day.
"Good morning, doc. "
"Morning."
"Uh, I stopped you because..."
I look at him, expectantly."I needed to... talk to you about something. Or more like ask, I guess."
I raise an eyebrow. He's nice, but I really don't have any social battery today."So, you work with medicine, right? Well, I was wondering if you could provide me some painkillers. I've been having a bad headache for days now, and painkillers are hard to come by around here."
That's what he stopped me for?
"Sure, let's go to the lab and I'll evaluate your condition," I start walking without waiting for a response.
I hear him walk behind me, and notice how quietly he does so.
"I didn't catch your name, by the way."
"Oh! Right, it's Adam, but people call me Toe."I burst out laughing.
He looks offended but it's short-lived as he smiles at me.
"Why Toe? That's hilarious!"
"Well, it's a funny story actually—"Adam doesn't get to finish as we reach my lab.
"A story for another time," I retort. We enter the lab and see König leaning against one of the tables in the middle of the room. And he looks amazing-
"Ärztin—" he looks at Adam.
"Sergeant König! What a pleasant surprise," Adam, seemingly happy, said."Adam. What are you doing here."
"Doc over here is gonna help me with something. Do you mind giving us some privacy?" He smirks at König.I, oblivious to the staring contest that's going on, prepare to evaluate Adam.
"Adam, sit here. I have to ask some questions before I give you anything."
"Sure thing, Doc. Can't wait for you to give me what I need."I look at him, confused. That's weird wording but whatever.
Shortly after Adam said that, König silently excused himself, said he'll be back after Adam leaves.
Weird behavior from the both of them.
I continue to ask Adam basic questions about his pain and whatnot, and prescribe him some painkillers.
"Thank you so much, doc! You're a real lifesaver."
"Anytime, Toe." I giggle as he scoffs sarcastically."I want to repay you. Maybe you want to have dinner with me sometime?"
I frown.
"Sorry, Adam, but I have a lot of work to do this month. And I'm not looking for anything... well you know..."
"Oh yeah that's totally fine. I wasn't proposing anything romantic anyway, haha. Just as friends."I nod.
"Gotcha. Well, we'll see. Off you go now."
We share goodbyes and shortly after Adam leaves, my partner comes in.
He looks a bit distressed. Or tired. Or both.
"So König, ready for another round of me brainstorming and you watching me?" I joke.
He sits down in his usual spot and nods.
I kept experimenting the whole day, and what I found shook both me and König.
