All four of us entered the meeting room in the main building. It's spacious, cold. Soap and I took a seat at the big metal table, while König and Ghost stood like statues near the table, arms crossed.

"So, I've heard that you're quite the talented chemist, creating a cure for that drug Hassan has been using," Soap spoke with a friendly tone.
"I'm just a doctor with a passion for chemistry." Hassan? Why haven't I been informed?
"I see. You did a good job!"
"Thank you." I smile at him.

This conversation is so awkward, but Soap seems very friendly, so I try to talk to him more, asking about how he got into military and whatnot. Ghost and König were silent the whole time. Some moments I would forget that they're there, glance behind me and jump seeing König standing there, menacingly.

"When does the meeting start? Are we waiting for someone?"
"We're waiting for colonel Vargas and Rodolfo. We arrived today too, Lt and I, so we still need to know what we'll be doing."

I nod.
"Gotcha."

After I said that, two men entered the room. Speak of the devil?
Me and Soap get up from our seats and walk over to the two men, König and Ghost following.

"Ghost, Soap. Sorry for the wait," his voice is so deep.

The man looks over at me, smiling.
"Ah, you must be the doctor, Y/N L/N. My name is Alejandro Vargas, I've heard about your successes," he puts his hand out for me to shake, so I do.
"Pleasure, Alejandro."
The man next to him introduces himself as Rodolfo.

"I didn't hope for a beautiful woman to be on our team, but I'm definitely happy she is."
"Alejandro, you flatter me." I chuckle.

I don't like to be minimized to just a beautiful woman, but the compliment still got me blushing.

I can feel someone staring at me, but I ignore it.

"I assume you already know what you'll be doing here?" Alejandro questioned.
"Actually, I don't have a clue. I wasn't informed, this is all very last minute."

He grumbles under his breath, something about someone's incompetence to fill me in.
"I have a file ready for you, it should have all the info you need. Unfortunately, I don't have time to brief you, we have other things to take care of. File is in your cabin," he hands me keys, "you're sharing it with your assistant," he looked apologetic saying the last part.

Sharing a cabin with König? You've got to be kidding me. Why does fate keep sticking me with him?

Me and König enter the small cabin, inside being more chilly than outside. It was close to the main building, which is convenient for me since the lab is in there. I don't like walking long distances.
It's minimally furnished, with a small kitchenette, dining area, bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom was quite small, but thankfully it had two single beds. The bathroom was even smaller.
One bedroom. Why does it keep happening to me.

We unpacked our things silently, bumping into each other a lot due to the lack of space in the bedroom. As I was trying to kick my now empty bag under my bed, König brushed passed me, both of his hands briefly touching my waist to get me out of the way. It felt wrong to feel butterflies from a simple touch like that, but it felt so good, too.
I can't. He's my colleague. I can't get distracted.

"What do you think of the cabin?" I ask, sitting down on my bed.
"Sehr klein."
"Hm?"
"Small."
I chuckle. Of course it's small for him. He's huge.

"Nothing we can do about it," I see the file on my bedside table and take it. It's quite thick.

I quickly read over it.

"So? What's the plan?"
"I have to help make more of the toxin, which I expected. What I didn't expect is to be working out on the field."
"Again?"
"Yeah. This time we have to find out how Hassan is making so much of his drug so quickly. We have to find files or something like that. I'm not worried though," I'm lying, "I can take care of myself just fine out there," can I?

I was the strongest assassin of my team, before. Of course I can.

"I think so, too. When I saw how you fought that soldier I knew you were much stronger than what you let on. I believe in you, doctor."

"Thank you, König," he always knows what to say.

After we fully unpacked our things, which wasn't much, I went to the makeshift laboratory in the main building and started making more of the toxin. I left König in our cabin to read through the file in more detail to analyze the locations the files could be stored. It has been a couple of hours since then, so I have no clue what he's up to now.
A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Hey, doc."

Adam.

"What are you doing here? Did I say you could come in?"
"No, but I just—"
"You don't get the pleasure of talking to me, so you can go on your merry way."
"Doc, I just want to apologize."
"Apologize?" I laugh. "You think a simple apology will get me to forgive you for your harassment? Fuck off, soldier."
"First of all, it's sergeant. Second of all, I'll give you a choice. Either you accept my apology and admit you feel something for me," he moves closer to me, sleazebag, "or I tell general Schneider that a certain someone knows about your little secret that could get him killed."

I freeze. Did he...

"You creep, you spied on us?!" I push him, making him stumble.

Adam starts laughing.

"And what the hell do you mean 'feel something' for you?! You're crazy."

He suddenly lunges at me, grabbing me by the neck. I didn't expect this, so I couldn't dodge him. Made me even more pissed.

"You listen to me, you whore. Unless you want your little boyfriend to die, I suggest you start respecting me."

Is he serious?

I grab and twist his arm, making him whimper.

"You think you have some sick control over me? You can tell Schneider anything you want, I don't care. I'm the only one that can do this job right, with or without König, so I would love to see you try to get rid of me, asshole," I let go of his hand.

"I thought you cared about him."
"I only care about my mission, his presence doesn't make a difference. Him finding out was inevitable, and if you get him into trouble for knowing, you can get killed, too," I can only wish, "so you wouldn't dare to put your position or life in jeopardy like that."

This made him think, but for some unknown reason he smiled.
"You can't get rid of me that easily. I'll become your worst nightmare."
"What a cliché thing to say, sergeant Toe. Now get the hell out of my lab."

He finally leaves, a scowl on his face.

I let out the breath I was holding. I couldn't show him I cared for König's well-being. It would make him a target.
