Before we went to bed, we got on facetime with David to let him know that we'll be home tomorrow night. He said he was so excited and told us about how he had a lot of tea with the new guy he was seeing.
"Wait," Leona paused and arched one eyebrow. "Is this the SAME dude we talked about last time? You know, the emo boy?"Me and David laughed so hard. "Yeah that's him. We're still talking, shocker right? I told him about my condition and everything on our 2nd date and couldn't care less. I mean he did care, but you know what I mean."
I nodded.
"Now Saphireeee....."
I groaned. "Yes David?"
"Tell me about you and that coffee boy. I need an update on you two" he said. Then he grabbed his cup and used it as a fake microphone. "Will the local barista in Paris and the small town granola girl stay in touch? Or will he leave her for a hot blonde?"
My mouth fell open."David!" He let out a laugh like it was the funniest thing in the world. "I'm just kidding. We all know blondes are overrated."
He thought for a second. "What's his name again? Daniel?"
I giggled and looked down trying not to hide my blush, but he noticed anyway. "Ooooooooo. TELL ME!"I looked back up and flipped my bangs out of my eyes. "First off, it's Danny.... so we're agreeing to keep talking when I get home." I sighed. "He's just so cute and patient. We took a lot of pictures together and I honestly might hang them on my walls. But it's not official.."
"Yettttt....." Leona said, playfully shoving me. I grinned."Yeah, yet. We're just gonna take things slow and finish getting to know each other. And that's that."
David stood there in the kitchen, staring at me with a questionable look on his face. He bent his index finger and placed it in front of his mouth. "Hmm. That's real interesting. Now let's get to the goodies: Is he good in bed? Does he have abs?"Leona busted out laughing and I covered my mouth in shock as I turned down the volume. "Not too loud, her grandma is in the next room."
"I'm sure she would wanna know too," he said, shrugging his shoulders.I held up my hand. "First of all, ew. Second of all, how am I supposed to know? We haven't even slept together."
"Mhmmmm....."
"What? We haven't. And does he have abs? I'm assuming so since he's really skinny and muscular."We talked for another 20 minutes about what we were gonna do when we got back home before David told us his "Boy toy" was trying to facetime him. Leona and I both gave each other a look. "Alright. See y'all tomorrow besties," he said, kissing the screen. "Bye bye."
I was really excited for him. The guy he was talking to seemed pretty chill and it made me happy. David's ex was a terrible guy and all he did was cheat on him, verbally abused him, and took advantage. Leona and I weren't here for it. I remember the day David finally called it quits, we all drove to his house, broke his windows, and threw toilet paper everywhere.
It probably wasn't the right thing to do, but what can I say? We were 19 and plus he deserved it because no one messes with our best friend.

"Are you sure we have everything?" Leona asked, walking out of the bathroom struggling to put on her earring. I'm chilling in the dining room, stuffing a big bowl of cheerios in my mouth. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure," I shouted. "Our bags and suitcases are sitting in the front and we have an uber coming to get us in 10 minutes.
It's cloudy outside and it might rain so we called a little bit earlier because if we're late, we'd have to pay extra to get on a different flight and we do not have any extra money.
I'm wearing leggings with a crop top and my dirty converse that I've had since college. Leona went all out. She loves to romanticize everything and if she doesn't wear a skirt with a blouse that matches, it'll be a bad day for her.
When I finished eating, I grabbed my beanie off the counter and put it on my head. My hair is a mess, again. And I just washed it last night. Trust me, I'm very tempted to just shave it all off and wear wigs for the rest of my life.
I woke up this morning pretty upset because Danny didn't text me good morning like he always does. Leona was blasting Black Pink through the speakers and it wasn't making things better. She said that he's probably too busy but I think that's a lie. He's busy all the time but always still finds the time to send me a quick text.
I tried my best to shake it off.
Our uber pulled out outside before we kissed and said goodbye to her grandparents. The driver was really patient with us. She even helped us with our luggage, despite the fact that it was beginning to drizzle. Her name tag read, "Evie," and she had short purple hair and an odd sense of style, but I loved it."Alright," she said once we had everything packed and were sitting in the car. The radio played some alternative song that I had never heard of. "Downtown airport," right?" She asked before putting the car in drive. "Yes mam," Leona said.
I started to get more nervous as she started driving further and further from Paris. He still hasn't texted or called and I'm worried that he won't be able to show up. Everytime my phone buzzes, I'm quick to check it only for it to be a notification from instagram or tumblr.
I looked over at Leona and she was nodding her head to the music while scrolling through pinterest. It must be really nice for her.
I sighed as I rested my head back and looked at the rain pebbles blur up the window and it felt like it was only 2 seconds later when Leona was shaking me awake. Once I was able to get my vision clear, I looked around me to see that we were parked right in front of the airport.
"That'll be $35 please," said Evie. The radio was still blasting music, only now I could tell who the band was: Radiohead.
"Oh, right," Leona said, digging inside her wallet and putting down cash in the cup holder without counting. "That's all I have," she said, slightly gritting her teeth. Evie brushed it off. "It's alright." She took out a cigarette and began lighting it.
"Come on, we have to go."
I checked my phone. 10 minutes before our plane boards. Still no message from Danny. I whine as we get out the door and get our luggage. The drizzling had stopped, but the weather was getting cooler for some reason. I shiver as we walk into the busy airport."He still hasn't texted me," I told Leona as we looked for our flight. "I knew it, he doesn't really want me, I was just some girl he could talk to, to waste time with in his boring life."
Leona stopped and turned to look at me. "Just send him a text and wait until they start boarding up the plane." She put her hand on my shoulder. "He'll show up. I promise."
I nodded and we continued looking for our state on the little tvs. All of the seats were full. There were babies crying, big families rushing through the airport, and business people walking with their luggage like a runway model.
One lady had her hair slicked back into a ponytail with a tight skirt and a black button notch. I could hear her heels clanking against the marbled floor as she walked past us with her fancy polka dot luggage.
I couldn't help but look around for him. "Find a tall short haired brunette..." I whispered to myself. There was one guy leaning against the wall outside the bathroom and a smile spread across my face, until a woman walked out of the bathroom and they began walking with each other. I eventually saw his face and it wasn't him. This is psycho.
