three days later

THE ROOM WAS DARK AND COLD. THE ONLY available light came from a dim bulb that hung from the ceiling. She didn't know how long she was asleep, but waking up hostage was not what she signed up for when she agreed to be a Titan.

The first thing she felt when she woke up was the sudden chill against her cheek from the concrete she laid on. Next, it was the incredible amount of pain that started to settle in her body from the car accident she had been in that led to her abduction. The rest of her injuries were minor except for her right leg, which was broken. If she managed to make it out of the room she was locked in, there was no way she was going to be able to defend herself against whatever faced her. Without any weapons to back her up, her chances of winning any fight were slim to none.

Even if she wanted to try to escape, she couldn't. Her hands were cuffed and chained to the floor, so all she could do was either sit or lay. "Of course, it's steel," the woman muttered to herself. Like all things, she had a weakness. Paige had never been able to phase through steel. At first, it wasn't much of an issue, but now it'd been recurring to the point where she'd just been aggravated about it now. As much as she would love to attempt to phase through the steel handcuffs, she had one minor problem: a power dampener. The collar that was placed around her neck prevented her from using her powers, so she wasn't able to phase, have visions, or become invisible as long as it stayed on.

She watched as the door unlocked before the woman who was there when she was kidnapped, the woman who kidnapped and killed her mother, walked in. "Oh, good, you're awake," Laverna said sweetly, although the malice in her voice was easy to spot.

"I'd rather be dead." Paige looked at her angrily through her eyebrows as she walked closer to her. Laverna's hand came up quicker than she could've processed before colliding with Paige's cheek, leaving an awful sting behind.

"That could certainly be arranged," the woman smirked, knowing that she was in a better position than Paige was. As much as she hated to admit it to herself, she was trapped with no way out. Getting out of wherever she was would take longer than she hoped.

"What do you want from me?"

"You're finally asking the important questions!" The woman unfolded a metal chair, placing it down in front of Paige as she took a seat. "Don't get any ideas now. You won't kill me like you killed Daniel...or at least like you thought you did."

"How do you know-"

"I know everything about you," she deadpanned. "How you fight, talk, eat, drink, sleep, I know it all." Paige felt unsettled by the amount of knowledge the woman had about her. "Back to your question, I want you dead. But you won't get that satisfaction so easily. I already killed your mom, so the only thing that's left is your team. How about that Jason kid? You seem close to him, and he's already had a run-in with near death. I mean, that was a pretty far drop—"

Laverna jumped back as Paige tried to attack her but was restricted by the cuffs around her wrist. She watched from the ground as a devilish smile curled onto her face. "You seriously aren't gonna try that again, are you? Anyway, maybe I'll go after your precious Dick Grayson. He's cute..." the woman said as she tauntingly circled Paige. "But, I think he'd look a lot better with his blood on your hands. After all, it's only a matter of time before you lead him to his death. Have you ever thought about why everyone around you gets hurt? It's because of you! No one can be happy as long as you're around. So you're going to feel that same pain when I kill everyone you love. I hope you said your goodbyes to Dick because the next time you see him will be at his funeral—!"
