ZAYNIE'S POV
THREE WEEKS LATER...
I am unhappy that today, the only day in months that I forgot my umbrella at home, is being the day that Saint Peter decided to give us His Excellency Sir Heavy Rain. People that were here are gone with their cars, except me and the other proletariats on this humble covered part in front the place I work, that covers 13% of my body. Such a lucky afternoon.
"Hey." I say when Khalil answers my call. "Can you gimme a ride? The world is falling apart from here."
"I'm far from home, there's no conditions."
"Call a car then? I'm broke."
"Oh, c'mon. It's not possible that it's raining too bad there."
"Far from home it probably doesn't, really. Thank you for nothing." I complain and end the call. Selective companionship, that's what it is.
After too many minutes waiting for some cue on this storm, I decide to go without it. To run won't make me soak any less, so I keep my average speed.
I wasn't counting that when I arrived home I wouldn't find my keys anyfuckin'where. After a while knocking my head is when I remember that I left home this morning with Khalil and he locked the door. So, my keys are there inside, dry, and I'm here. Very wet and not as I like to be.
I've spent thirty minutes choosing what to do, huddling under this little cover that, even if it's bigger than the other, doesn't make too much difference 'cause there's no dry parts on my body. As if it doesn't have any way to get worse, it starts to wind, like, A LOT. Why, God, all this disgusting against my person?
The only one I think that could help me right now is Liam. And also the one that should be closer. Even if we hadn't talked since that weekend, I'm almost sure that he would welcome me. Different from one and another that I used to call my brother.
I hope he's at home.
"Hello?" Liam answers at the second ring.
"Hey, Liam." I clear my throat. "Are you home?"
"Yes I am, are you OK? Need something?"
"I ahm... I arrived home just now and figured out that my key is not with me. Khalil is not here. Can I go to your place?"
"Sure. You're with an umbrella, right?"
"No." I laugh about my situation. My whole body is shivering. "I'll be there soon."
"Wait, I'll pick you up."
"Don't need to, I'm already soaked, I will wet your car."
"I don't have a car, I'll pick you up with my umbrella. Wait for me there, please."
Our call is over, he doesn't let me argue, so I obey. I wait for a little while until I catch a sight of Liam coming in my direction with a family sized umbrella. I'm emotional, I feel that I could cry if I was still producing tears.
"Hey." He says when comes closer enough, then covers my back with a towel that was behind his arm.
"Liam..." Oh my God, can I melt?
"C'mon." He embraces our arms, keeping the umbrella over us with his other hand.
We follow in silence. I don't know what to say, I'm feeling shy. Plus Liam seems to be focused or worried, I don't know. His features are serious, hard I guess. I can't decipher.
