SIX YEARS LATER

"Dad, Violet doesn't let me choose the cartoon." Sierra whines, so I go to the living room.

"Uncle Liam, she watched the whole morning! I just wanna watch this TV Show." Violet arguments.

"Did you hear her, daughter?" I kneel in front of Sierra.

"But daddy!" That's what she argues with her bad humor.

"Come here, hug your dada." I involve Sierra in my arms and wait for her to calm down a bit before continuing saying: "I know you're angry, but... What do you think of helping me to make a cake for your mom? I need you with me."

"A cake for my mommy?" Sie moves away wiping her eyes, probably searching for my eyes.

"Yes, they will come home tired." I touch her cheeks with my thumbs. "I think she will love to find a delicious cake. Do you?"

"Yeah, I think so. We can... We can make a big one! With a lot of mint and chocolate and cherries."

"Does your mom enjoy chocolate with mint?" I stand up with this kid in my arms, blinking an eye to Violet before I get back to the kitchen.

"They does!"

"They doesn't, baby blossom." I laugh. "Only me and you appreciate this combination. What about a carrot cake with a bunch of chocolate?"

Violet and Sierra are nine years apart, the older is almost eighteen now. And I have to say that they are overprotective about me. So, to be on school holidays, together full time, is chaotic. But amazing and funny at the same time. Besides their jealousy, they both love each other so much. My niece is extremely patient with her cousin.

"Sie, can you help daddy with the ingredients please?" I put her on the floor.

"Sure, daddy. What do you need?"

"Three medium carrots, it's in the refrigerator.

"Hum! Can I drink some guava juice?"

"Yes, honey."

I take the chance to pick my blender and a bowl to mix everything later. I let Sierra choose the music on my cell phone, we sang and danced during the process, and stopped a little to rest after putting the cake on the oven. We still have to do the cake top.

"Dada, I want an orange." Sie asks for just when I take a seat at my outside chair.

"Can you ask your cousin? I think her TV Show is already over."

"Why?"

Because I was about to smoke. I was, which means I'm not going anymore. I laugh about myself and stand up without an answer to my daughter.

"Dada is gonna give it to you." That's what I say.

Our adoption process was very quick. Sierra was only 3 years old, extremely affectionate and authoritative, she became fond of us immediately. While we were playing with her, she asked questions, told us a lot of stories and praised Zaynie's voice more than once.

I told her my opinion that my partner's voice sounds even better when they is singing, and Sierra didn't need to do too much to convince her mother to sing. Since then, our relationship has been getting better and better, so much that we are here right now.
