 Pete's Pov

"Good afternoon" I say for the 20th time today. Ahh I can't wait to go home already, and the day just started. I work at a convenience store about two blocks away from where I live. I live with my mom and little brother in a small apartment, ever since my dad left us, I have stepped up and taken the responsibility to look after them. My mother had gotten too old to be working around a lot of people, and she also has health problems that affect her daily life.

My brother is way too young to start working and is still in school, which is why I chose to help out and make money to support us. I have been working at this little convenience store for 3 years, it has definitely been the worst three years of my life. I snapped out of my thoughts when I hear the door open once again. Welcome in. I say as two people dressed in all black walk in.  I didn't think much other than them wanting to come in and buy a few things, so I didn't let my mind wander to bad scenarios.

I closely observe the two men making sure that they aren't going to try and steal anything. Although, it was hard to keep an eye on them because it looks like they are doing the same to me. I once again look away from their direction and help the customer at the counter. Hello there, I say as I scanned her items and placed them in a bag. We had a short conversation before she grabbed her things and left.

I felt a little uneasy since the only customers in the store were the two people acting very suspicious. Thankfully one of the employees finally arrived and started to get to work. The two people dressed in black left the store not taking their eyes off of me. I shivered as it felt like their stares were piercing into my soul.

I tried to take my mind off of it by going and organizing some of the items on the shelf that were out of place. Just as I finished putting the last item in its place, I looked at the time and seen that it was time for my break. I gladly gathered my things and walked out of the store heading home. I walked along the sidewalks of the open view of the little town outside the convenience store.

Unfortunately, the view didn't last long because I had to turn into a small alley in order to get to my place. As I walked through the alley it reminded me of my father, him and I used to play catch in this alley before he became an alcoholic. My father used to be great before falling into debt. After he fell in debt, he picked up on an addiction from all the stress he had. Because of his addiction he hurt us a lot he would hit my mom every day after coming home from feeding into his addiction.

I always tried to help my mom, but she pushed me and my brother into a room and locked it so that we wouldn't have to see all the bad things he would do. I was taken out of my thoughts when I realized that I was now in front of my place, I grabbed my keys out of my pocket and unlocked the door. As soon as I opened the door I was greeted by my mom and brother. I looked at my brother with concern, considering the fact that he should be at school and not at home.

I rushed over to him and started checking his head to see if he had a fever. He quickly pushed my hands off of him, an attitude present in his actions. What is the matter with you I ask, wondering what I had done to him. He just rolled his eyes and avoided looking in my direction. I looked over to my mom to see if she knew what was up, but she had the same look on her face that he did.

My mother eventually told me to sit down. I did as she said and waited for one of them to start talking. My mother then slid an envelope over to me and told me to open it up. Once I opened the letter my eyes widened. It was an eviction letter, I was so confused and lost at. I felt my heart drop as I looked up to my mom and brother both of them looked so disappointed in me. Before I could say anything, my brother started to yell at me. I THOUGHT THAT YOU SAID YOU HAD EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL, he said. I flinched at his sudden outburst and so did my mom.

Chay hold on listen to me please, I said trying to calm him down a little bit. IM TIRED OF LISTENING TO YOU BECAUSE ALL YOU DO IS LIE, YOU LIED TO ME AND MOM, YOU PROMISED THAT YOU WOULD TAKE CARE OF US NO MATTER WHAT, he yelled. My mom went over to his side and tried to calm him down so that he would stop yelling.

Listen I'm trying my best Chay I really am. I said hurt evident in my voice. I got up from the table and grabbed my things, I will take an extra shift tonight, so I'll be home late. Good Chay said bitterly. You know what you might as well not come home anyway, it's not like it will make a difference, he added. I closed my eyes shut and aloud a single tear to escape from eye and roll down my cheek. I then closed the door and began walking back to the store. Hoping that it won't be as bad there as it is here.
