Chapter 37

Sorry later than expected!!

"Hey Lils! How's Aussie land treating you?" Will replied, I immediately felt a tired smile come to my face as I spoke to Will, the comfort of friendship making me feel better. "Well, it's treating me well... The suns always shining..." He grinned at me, "So you got with my brother yet?" He asked cheekily, I felt a little disheartened as the previous few minutes came rushing back to me and I said "No, far from it at the moment. He's mad at me, I just had lunch with a guy on the US team while they were all practising and I don't know, Tom landed awkwardly and just gave me the silent treatment." I stopped and waited slightly impatiently for Will's opinion and possible explanation. He exhaled audibly then inhaled deeply saying "Woah, wasn't expecting that..." I felt bad suddenly, ringing up Will to moan and offload my troubles to him and I said "No, wait, this isn't fair to come to you! No I'll sort it myself, sorry Will!" But he cut me off saying "Hold up, you're not getting rid of me that easy Lily. Just listen," I nodded quietly, feeling comforted again, knowing that Will would know what to do. "Just hear him out," he started to say. "Tom will not start this, just wait till he's cooled down a bit and just talk honestly to him. And Lily just remember he really likes you, there's no way he'll just cut you off, you're like a drug to him!" I gave a little chuckle to that and said "I'll think of it as the sun, you can't live without the sun!" He laughed as well and said "Just follows advice Lils, you'll be fine." I blew him a kiss, "Thank you Willzy!" I said "See you in a few weeks!" We said our goodbyes and I breathed in deeply as I felt renewed confidence to find Tom and make it up to him. 

A while later I found him in a corner of the leisure centre, sitting on a chair with his hair still damp, looking through his phone. I cautiously approached him and as he looked up I pulled a half smile and took a seat on the chair opposite and said "Look Tom we need to talk..." He didn't reply but I remembered Will's words and ploughed on saying: "My lunch with Zach was just casual, you know I like you and even though we agreed not to get together I would never dream of thinking of someone else! Every guy I see now I'm always comparing them to you, and honestly... None of them come close. Please understand that I'm sorry and I'll speak to you about anything similar that comes up." I finished with a little huff and braced myself for the reply I had no idea what to expect for. After a few moments he leaned forward and said, "Lily, it isn't really your fault... I just was on the board and two of his friends were being rude about you... Talking as if you were just an object," he shuddered "I don't want you talked about like that when you're so much more than just a pretty face and fine body. And then Zach came and he just didn't do much to stop them. And when I landed badly I just got more upset and I just needed space." I felt a weight had been lifted from me and I listened to him continue, "And then Kassidy and Tonia came to see me, they said this was the kick up the backside I needed to make you mine. So Lily here goes... You're one of my best friends and I never want to lose you but I like you so much, will you please be my girlfriend?" I felt a little stunned, not really expecting that at all but I got up and sat sideways across his lap, wound my arms round his neck and kissed him gently, to which he eagerly responded. "That's a yes from me." I said breaking the kiss and leaning my forehead against his. He grinned and hugged my waist saying "Of course those idiots were right in a way, you do have a lovely butt..." I laughed and kissed him again lightly, "Oh you flatter me too much Tom!" And he laughed too but stopped and said, "Wait I have a surprise for you, close your eyes." I obeyed, utterly bewildered and clueless to what it might be. I felt his hands brush the nape of my neck as he took the necklace he bought for me off and replaced a few minutes later, it felt heavier and where it had been warm before there was a new cold part. Before I could think too much about it, Tom said "Open your eyes." I did, and looking down at my necklace I saw added to the little diver and lilypad there was now a little T and L intertwined together, he must have bought them the same time as the others. I spun round to hug him again and say, my voice muffled in his neck, "Thank you so much! It's so beautiful." he stroked my hair and kissed my neck gently saying "My beautiful girlfriend deserved no less than the best. I am truly sorry for earlier." I leaned back to look him in the eyes but not moving off his lap and said, "I'm sorry too, but we got through this, we can do anything" This was it. Tom was mine. Just mine.
