Chapter 35

"Well thanks for that!" Tom said as he pulled away for air and pecked my nose, his hands still at the base of my back, his mouth smiling. "You're welcome," I said smiling back, "You'll never guess who I just met..." He thought about it, "Uhh not sure, tell me." He said leaving an arm round my waist and leading me to an empty sofa, "Ryan Lochte and Nathan Adrian!" I said slightly high pitched, Tom laughed at my expression but said "Um I recognise the names but who are they?" I rolled my eyes "USA swimmers, sorry to fangirl but I've literally had a crush on them for years!" He laughed again "Are they like my Cheryl Cole?" I nodded emphatically "Should I be worried?" He asked, "No!" I said "Nu-uh no worries" I kissed him and said "Besides they're too old, you're just perfect." He hugged me and I carried on "I also saw Michael Phelps... But that was more jaw dropping than fangirling" I mused "-still, pretty impressive for one day."

Tom's POV:

I woke up on the second day of training to sun streaming through my windows and the sound of humming getting nearer and nearer, when it reached its crescendo the door was flung open and Lily came twirling in saying "Good morning!" I already had a smile on my face, "I'm the first awake today and now it's your turn to get woken up come on!" And she carried on humming over bout morning groans as she threw open the curtains to make the room lighter, picked up socks and shirts draping them over chairs and suitcases until waltzing back out with a cheery "See you in 10!" I heard Jack and Chris stir and Chris say "She could charm a bear and melt icebergs with her morning happiness!" I laughed and agreed, Lily on form in the morning was certainly a whirlwind of energy.

We had breakfast, packed our bags and started to walk to the pool as a group, I was walking with Lily and Andy as they playfully debated the pros and cons of diving whilst Andy talked and explained the mechanics. I didn't really join in but I focused on Lily as her expressive face changed and her mind worked as she absorbed the knowledge from Andy and I thought: she's perfect. I had never had a girlfriend that interacted so well with everyone I knew and loved and I felt like I randomly wanted to snatch her up into my arms and plant a kiss on crown of her head and bury my face in her apple smelling hair. I found myself smiling from just seeing her talk and laugh as Andy cracked jokes.

I didn't see much of Lily that morning as we had intense circuit training and Lily wasn't needed till after. However at about 11am I heard her laugh and looked over to see her and Edwin Jongejans, the Leeds coach as he was showing her how to use his video camera which he used to film us all with. With each sit up I did I could see her her progress and after a while she moved off in between us filming individually: Hannah with a skipping rope, Jack squatting, Tonia with dumbbells. She came over to me and I heard her say "-and here's some guy called Tom Daley, never heard of him..." As I came up I shot her a look and the camera shook slightly as she chuckled. She made to move off but Edwin came over and said "Hang on Lils let me take the camera and Tom you use Lily as a weight, it'll be a nice feature!" Lily looked concerned for a moment "Are you sure?" She asked, "He's lifted me before but like this?" Edwin snorted, "Lily don't worry! He could probably do it one handed!" It was my turn to look doubtful "Edwin I'm not trying that!" He laughed again "I know Tom but come on two handed!" Lily laughed again and lowered herself onto my upturned hands so she was facing the ceiling and I started the lifts. Edwin played some of it back to us after a while and I laughed as Lily changed her face every 5 seconds to another, like cross eyed or monkey. "Oh Tom you looked constipated!" She said cackling slightly, I elbowed her in the ribs and said "Well better than doing no work so I can pull monkey faces!" She turned and winked, "Touché..."
