Michael: babe?
Melissa: yeah?
Michael: remember I said I'd come over tonight?
Melissa: of course I remember, are you still coming?
Michael: yeah I'll be over in a second
Melissa: okay cool :)
Michael: okay :)
Michael put his phone in his pocket and fell back on his bed "I think she likes me" he smiled.
"Who likes you?" His mother asked walking into his room with a tray of food.
"Mum! How long have you been there?" He jumped up.
"Not that long..." She sat the food down on his dresser "so who's the girl?" She asked.
"No one" he said stuffing a chicken nugget in his mouth.
"Oh come on Michael...I missed out on a year of your life, let me in" she sat down on his bed and rubbed is arm. She looked down finally noticing his tattoos.
"...it's this girl Melissa" he told her "she's nice, funny, and the prettiest girl I've ever met" he smiled "but.."
"But?" His mother asked.
"Her father is chief John Greendale, the one that always catches me and hates me so much for what I-" he stopped himself "he doesn't like me.."
His mother was quiet for a second "well, talk to him and tell him how much you care about her" she finally spoke.
Michael shook his head "no he'd shoot me dead" he shoveled more chicken nuggets into his mouth.
"No he wouldn't, stop exaggerating! And slow down on eating" she said.
"Sorry, I haven't eaten in three days...prison food is disgusting"
The words a mother never wants to hear from her child. An experiences of prison "well, get some rest Mike" she pushed his hair back and kissed his forehead.
He handed her his plate "goodnight Mum, love you"
"Goodnight sweetheart, love you too" she said before leaving the room and turning the lights off.
Michael waited a few hours before sneaking out his window and walking to Melissa's house. The night air was hot and humid with crickets chirping in the near distance. He looked up at the sky that was covered in stars "I wish that this will work" he said closing his eyes.

Melissa sat in her room staring at the clock nervously "what if he gets caught?" She asked herself. She played with her hair and day dreamed how it would be to see him. A noise at her window snapped her back to reality. She looked over and got out of bed. She walked to her window and opened it up only for a pebble to hit her in the face"ow!" She said.
"Sorry!" Michael yelled up "shit! I mean sorry" he whispered.
"What are you doing?" She asked rubbing her forehead.
"Throwing rocks at your window at midnight" he said "can I come up?" He asked already climbing up the lattice on the side of the house. He jumped through her window and stood in front of her in her room "I'm sorry about your head" he said kissing the spot where the pebble hit her.
"It's okay" she giggled.
"What's funny?" He asked.
She shrugged and smiled.
"What's funny about being sorry?" He smiled.
"Nothing, you're just cute"
"Well you're cute" he replied.
She blushed.
"Sorry that was stupid" he itched the back of his head.
"Hey, your hair is red now!"
"Oh yeah" he looked up trying to see it "I dyed it yesterday, you like it?" He asked.
"Yeah reds my favorite color"
"Oh, then it will forever be red" he took his jean jacket off and draped it around her chair.
Melissa giggled.
"Can I ask you something?" Michael asked sitting down on her window seat.
"Sure" she sat down next to him.
He pulled her onto his lap "Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked looking up at her.
The room was quiet for a moment.
"I know we just met but I can't stop thinking about you" he looked her in the eyes.
She got lost in his sparkling green gaze.
"You're not responding" Michael said nervously.
Melissa grabbed his shirt and pulled him close to her face resting her lips against his. She let go of his collar and wrapped her arms around his neck. His hands found her waist and rested against her. She ran her fingers through his hair and leaned away "yeah" she said.
The door flung open and Greendale stood at the entrance "I knew it!" He yelled seeing his daughter on Michael's lap.
"Gotta go" Michael said and kissed her cheek. He moved her off his lap and turned around to the window speedily climbed down the lattice.
"Clifford!" Greendale yelled "if I see you anywhere near my daughter again so help me I'll shoot you!" He yelled out the window.
"Bye babe!" Michael yelled back "love you!"
Melissa ran to the window "your jacket!" She waved it around.
He stopped "keep it!" He yelled back.
Greendale turned around to face Melissa. His face was as red as Michael's hair.
"He's changed" she insisted gripping his jacket.
"They don't change Mel!" He yelled "they never change!"
"I love him!" She yelled back at her father "I love him like mom loved you!" Tears formed in her eyes.
Greendale shook his head.
"His eyes! That's how I knew! Just like mom" tears rolled down her face.
Greendale walked out of her room and slammed the door shut.
Melissa sat on the floor crying and put Michael's jean jacket on. Her mother died a year ago in a car crash. It's been her and her father since then which is part of the reason why he's so protective of her. She crawled over to her desk drawer and pulled out the scrap book she made with her mother a few years ago. Flipping through the pages always seemed to calm her down but this time it made it worst.
