Flo

After that night we tried not to do more than that. Just for now. I wasn't fully ready to go all the way and I don't think he was ready for me either. We decided we would go on a date that Tuesday. He said he would pick me up from work and take me to a place in town. I was not sure of where, but he assured me it would be nice.

It's now Tuesday and I am terrified. I put on my other dress Rena bought me. I pulled my hair into a low bun and had a few curls fall along my face. I put on a bit of mascara and left for work.

My first day was great and everyone was so nice. I am hoping today is just as great. I basically stocked the shelves, got to make my own arrangements for new books and cashed people out. I have a co-worker named Lydia that I really like. She is eccentric and funny and I love the way she is so free spirited. She told me how great Gunner is and how they went to school together and she said he always used to say hi to everyone. Never saw her as different even though she was not about the ranch life and he didn't care. She also told me about his girlfriend from high school that broke his heart. Said she thought that she was the reason he went into the military. We talked a lot throughout the day and got to know each other. Our boss Trevor was nice too and apparently he was a teacher in the school too and really liked Gunner and said he was so smart and kind to everyone.

When my day was over I freshened up and Gunner walked in with a smirk on his face. He had on a white with black pin striped shirt sleeve button up shirt and black dress slacks. His beard was trimmed and his hair was trimmed up. It was still all black curls and he was beautiful. He had a small yellow bouquet of flowers and as soon as he kissed my cheek all the nerves were gone.

" Are you ready to go, Chickadee?" He asks

" Yes Sir" I say, unable to shake my smile. " Bye guys. I'll see you tomorrow."

" Thanks for giving her a job Mr. Hastine." He says, shaking Trevor's hand.

" She's great." He says

" She will be back tomorrow, but I have some reservations." Gunner explains

He takes my hand and leads me out the double doors and we walk down the street to a small Italian restaurant. We walk in and she seats us right away. He pulls out my seat for me. Then he sat across from me. Everyone is smiling and looking at us. I feel like I am with a celebrity. Very much out of my element.

" This is not much but they have really yummy food and it's the best in town. I figure this is better than the five star place that is stuffy." He explains pointing East knowing he meant the sushi place. Who even likes sushi?

" You're here with me. I am good right here." I say

" Good to know." He snickers.

When the waitress came back he ordered lasagna and I ordered chicken Alfredo. The restaurant wasn't fine dining but it was very comfortable and everything looked fancy and very yummy. There were little battery operated candles on the table and a wine list. Everything was gold hew. He reached for my hand and traced hearts and circles on the back of my hand. Between my thumb and pointer finger.

" So Gunner, what do you want in life?" I ask " Do you really want ranch life?"

" I love it. It's not really a job. It's the life I want and living my job is heaven to me." He explains " I want a wife and kids. I would like to take over the main ranch issues for my dad and live a great life. I like my house. I love my family. It's comfortable."

The waitress puts our meals in front of us and I think about the life he wants. Does he really want kids? If he is thinking of me for that wife part I have to tell him about my past and that it scares me to think about being pregnant again. I have already been through that pain and tragedy when it doesn't work out. Will I ever feel ready for kids?
