Harry's Adventures as a Werewolf

16. Severus

The next morning, Severus brought some potions he had made to the Mediwing, using that as an excuse to be there so he could check up on Remus and Harry.

When he got there, Dumbledore was there, and he was pretending everything was great, but Severus could tell he was not happy. The twinkle was gone from his eyes. As Severus turned to leave, Dumbledore stopped him.

"Severus my boy, just the person I wanted to see. Please accompany me to my office. I need to have a word with you."

"I have a lot of brewing to do. Can this wait?"

"No, it can't, but I won't keep you too long."

Dumbledore then turned and left the Mediwing. Severus knew he was expected to follow. He glanced over at Harry and could tell that he was fine, so he followed the headmaster to his office.

Upon entering, he could feel Dumbledore's icy stare. With his bored mask firmly in place, Severus approached the desk and stared at the headmaster.

"What happened to the Wolfsbane potion? I thought I told you to mix a lust potion in with it."

"You did and I did. It took some time figuring it out, but I got it to work like you wanted."

"No, you didn't. They should have mated last night if you did, and they didn't."

"How do you know what they did or didn't do last night? You were in the castle with the rest of us, so you couldn't have been in the forbidden forest with them."

"I have my ways, and either you didn't do what you were told, or they didn't take the potion."

Severus started to feel nervous but refused to let it show.  They never discussed what to do if Dumbledore discovered that they stopped taking the potion. He just kept reminding himself only two more weeks until Harry graduates and that means last night was the last full moon he has to go through in Hogwarts. So, he decided to hedge the truth. "I can only make the potion; I can't make them drink it. I did what I was supposed to do. If they didn't drink it that is on them."

The headmaster looked more pissed than Severus had ever seen him. "Now if you don't mind, I really do have to get back to my lab."

"Yes, yes, you may go."

Severus quickly lift and went straight to his lab but once there he called Bindy to deliver another message. He quickly wrote -be careful. He knows you didn't take the potion-. Severus handed it to Bindy with instructions to take it to Harry and not wait for a response.

He proceeded to make more potions for the Mediwing as well as St. Mungo's Hospital. Fortunately, they were easy potions to make so Severus was able to think about other things while making them. He kept worrying about what the headmaster would do next. Without this knowledge they could not plan their next steps. 

Approximately 5 hours later Severus was finishing up with the last potion when there was a light tap on his lab door. Tap, tap, pause, tap, tap, tap. Recognizing that as Harry's knock he said "Enter."  The door opened and sure enough no one was there. After the door closed again Harry appeared from under his invisibility cloak. 

"Glad to see you survived last night without any major problems."

"Yes, last night was great. Remus only half changed like the time he forgot to take his potion when Sirius escaped, but he trusted me, and we had a pleasant night. I am hoping after a couple more full moons he will change completely without the potion like I do."

"You got my note?"

"Yes. What do you think he will do about it? What do you think we should do? Is there anything to be concerned about?"

"I don't know to all three questions. I have been trying to figure that out for the past 5 hours while I was brewing. The only thing I came up with is we will have to wait for him to do something and then react accordingly."

"I don't like this." Harry sighed, "I would prefer to have some kind of idea of what he is thinking. But at least we only have two weeks left of school and then we are free of him." 

"Don't fool yourself. You may be done with Hogwarts in two weeks, but you will never be free of him. Especially if he wants you dead for some reason."

"Don't remind me. Why can't I have a normal life? Or as normal of a life as a Werewolf can have.  Find my mate and live happily ever after. Is that too much to ask?"

Severus approached Harry and wrapped him up in his arms giving him support the only way he could at the moment. His arms tightened and his heart broke a little as he felt Harrys body shake as he started to cry into his shoulder. He continued to hold Harry until the young man was all cried out. He felt Harry straighten his shoulders out and knew he was putting he brave front back in place. That was Severus's cue to release the young man from his hug. Harry smiled his thanks to Severus and turned to leave the lab, placing his invisibility cloak back on before exiting the door. 

When he was alone again, Severus reaffirmed his vow to himself that he would do everything in his power to make sure Harry got his Happily Ever After.
