Severus spent hours in his lab making potions for both the Medi Wing and St. Mungo's. He wanted to keep them stocked up with the good potions instead of the second rate stuff that comes out of the Ministry these days, but he also wanted to keep busy as to avoid Dumbledore and his inane rantings about losing Potter. He has yet to discover why Dumbledore wants the two of them dead.

Harry he can sort of understand. The boy is more powerful then Dumbledore ever was and that scares the old man. How else can a child of 11 survive going up against the Dark Lord, even if he was a mere wrath of himself? Or a 12 year old kill a basilisk? No. All those so called trials and tests and encounters, what ever you wish to call them, that happened to the poor boy at the end of every year was actually a murder attempt set up by the old fool himself.

 But why Lupin? That still puzzles Severus and he doesn't like puzzles.  He likes to have the answers. Unfortunately answers are in short supply these days about as short as the leash Dumbledore has on Severus this summer. All the other professors have left the school already for the summer Holidays, but Dumbledore as "requested" Severus stay behind. He tried to persuade the old man into letting him leave by reminding him of the Potion conference he was do to attend this summer. Dumbledore put the kibosh on that one when he informed Severus that he had already written a letter on Severus's behave regretfully declining the honor of speaking that the conference, Severus had more important things to do.  When Severus asked him what those important things were, with a gleam in his eye Dumbledore said, "What ever I ask you to do!"

 Severus keeps kicking himself for binding himself to Dumbledore. But at the time he trusted the old man and he didn't think he had a choice. He was under the impression that the Dark Lord was going to kill Lily, the love of his life. He couldn't allow that to happen. So he pledged himself to Dumbledore if he would only protect Lily from the Dark Lord. Dumbledore promised Severus that the Dark Lord would not kill Lily.

One thing Severus can say about Dumbledore is, he keeps his promises. It wasn't the Dark Lord that killed Lily. He is sure of it.  Severus is positive it was Dumbledore himself who killed Lily because she would not get out of the way of him killing Harry. How what happened to the Dark Lord fits in Severus hasn't figured out yet.

Now he is stuck here in the castle with the crazy old man.  He has but one reprieve and it is brief. Just once a month and only for an hour tops. To deliver the Wolfsbane to Harry and Lupin before each full moon. Even though they are not taking it anymore, the old fool refuses to believe it and insists they get their monthly supply.  Severus still has communication with the two wolves in the form of his house elf Bindy. All though, now that the students are gone and there is less magical energy all around the castle, she has had to resort to popping in and out in the kitchen area were the other house elves are, so that Dumbledore does not get a clue about her presence.

Just as Severus finished up his last potion of the day and started to clean the lab, he felt a tug on his pant leg. He looked down to find Bindy holding a letter. "Bindy has letter for Master Sevvy sir. Master Sevvy read letter, Bindy clean messy lab."

"Thank you Bindy, but you know how much it relaxes me to clean and make sure everything is in order."

"You say Bindy not put things in right order?" she says with fists on her hips. "Bindy been with Master Sevvy since before he can walk, Bindy knows how Master Sevvy likes things.  Now shoo.  Shoo shoo."

"Ok Ok you win. Thank you Bindy."

"Master Sevvy is most welcome. Now if Bindy can only get Master Sevvy to treat other house elves the way he treats Bindy." she huffs as she walks away to start cleaning.

Severus gives a small smile to Bindy and leaves his lab entering his living quarters. Severus sits in his favorite chair and opens the letter. Recognizing the penmanship right away as Harrys he proceeds to read.

{Dear Severus, My parents are under the imperious curse and I think the supposed last Dark Lord is still alive. Your Friend Harry.}
