Time skip: 2 days, 12 am
I was racing down a random alley in some neighborhood I couldn't identify, I wanted to migrate to another place. I pulled out my lighter and took my last few steps out of the alley before I was greeted by another church. This should be my thing, I'll be the real antichrist.
I felt a rush of adrenaline course through my veins as I repeated my ritual of pouring the lighter fluid around the base of the building, lighting it up and running back as I watched it circle the building. It's fire would spread to the back before rapidly engulfing it in flames.
I started walking down the street, my parents were gone for the week and I didn't need to bother going home yet. I was already in another town and I couldn't even see the smoke coming off of the church now. It was about 1:05 now and I was about to head back but I heard a car come creeping up behind me.
I looked back, expecting to see a white van about to kidnap me, or a teen coming back from a party, not a cop car. I saw that it was from Belleville and I assumed the worst. Officer Way. The car pulled over beside me and I stopped walking. I glanced at the drivers door and saw it open as none other than Officer Way stepped out, just like I guessed.
I was tempted to run again but remembered what Toby told me, it'd just make things worse. "Can I help you?" I asked him, wanting to seem more confident than I actually was. "Are you going to run away this time? Or can I actually talk to you." He said, sass emanating from his voice. "No sir, I'll stay."
"Aren't you from Belleville? What are you doing out here." I paused, I didn't even know where "here" was. "I was at my friend house but something happened... and now I'm lost I have no idea where I am." A blush rose across my cheeks and I saw Officer way raise an eyebrow.
"Well, I could take your back to your friends house if that's okay." I nodded and got into his police car, fidgeting with my fingers as I told him the address. I knew Toby was awake, I could say he was my friend but I'd need a way to warn him. "Can I text my mom real quick? Just to say I'm not coming home anymore and I changed my mind. He nodded and I pulled out my phone and quickly went to Toby's contact.
"Pretend you're my friend and I was at your house don't ask questions. All I got back was a reply that said "you're killing me Frank." But I knew I could count on him to get me out of anything, no matter the severity. A thick tension was spreading throughout the car and I was scared he would start asking questions.
After a couple of minutes, we arrived at Toby's house and I heard Officer Way unlock the car door. "Wait." I heard him exclaim as I opened the door. "Stop running away? Okay?" I nodded and blush rose upon my cheeks. "Thank you." I stuttered, embarrassed by what he said. "No problem."
"What did you even do? Who was that?" Toby questioned, he looked tired from the lack of sleep and a mix of concern and confusion was spread across his face. "I can't explain-" Toby stopped me. "Yes you can." I paused for a moment, trying to come up with what to say. "I was with a friend at his house, but I had to leave because his mom got mad at him. I started walking but I ended up somewhere I didn't know where I was." I looked at Toby and he nodded as if to say "go on." I took a breath and continued my story. "Then that cop that I ran away from pulled up behind me and offered me a ride. I told him to drop me off here because I knew you wouldn't be mad."
I looked at Toby's face for any sign of how he felt and he just looked at me. "You weren't doing anything wrong, right?" He asked. "What? No! I already told you what happened." He just pursed his lips and walked over to me. "Okay, take the spare room. You can stay here for the night." I grinned and made my way over to the room that I would be using. "Thanks, Toby."
The night seemed to draw on, I kept feeling as if I was hearing sirens, or knocking on the door, or anything that could signal that I've been caught. Officer Way never looked as if he suspected anything of me, though deep down, I knew my luck was never this good. I eventually gave up on trying to sleep anymore. Instead, I got up and quietly walked towards the kitchen. My throat was dry from sleep and I had that weird taste in my mouth.
I grabbed a glass out of the cupboard and turned on the faucet. I cringed as the sink made a squeaky noise and the water seemed to splash louder than normal. After the cup was full I listened carefully to determine whether I woke up Toby or not, I didn't. I downed the water as quick as I filled it up, im guessing my thirst was caused by my thoughts. I set the glass in the sink and slowly walked back upstairs, every step I took caused the stairs to creak in a haunting manner.
The last of the night was filled with me staring at the ceiling, never turning the attention I was giving to my surroundings away. I must have drifted off to sleep sometime because next thing I knew, the sun was waking me through the blinds. The walk downstairs was quieter than last night, I knew Toby was already awake, when I woke up I took a glance at the digital clock next to the bed. 11:43.
"He arises!" I hear Toby exclaim as I make my way into the living room. "You've slept until one before, I don't wanna hear that." I remarked. "Whatever, there's waffles on the stove." I nodded and walked into the kitchen, seeing my empty glass in the sink from that night. I grabbed a serving and saw that Toby was now in the dining room. I joined him and we talked about meaningless things, avoiding the conversation from last night.
"Do you want me to bring you home?" I nodded. "My parents aren't home, you don't need to explain anything to them.
A couple hours later I was laying in bed, texting Vic and checking MySpace. Officer Way wandered into my mind, I wonder what his first name is. I exited out of MySpace and stopped for a moment before typing in "Officer Way Belleville New Jersey."
A couple links popped up but the first one had a picture of his face and a reading about him. I clicked on it and the first sentence gave me my answer. "Gerard A. Way, police officer in Belleville, New Jersey."
His name seemed to match his face more than I expected and I smiled at the answer. I realized he knew my fake name and realized he couldn't search me up if he was ever suspicious. I was safer than I thought.
