"Wait, hold the fuck up– you're getting married? To your brother's spouse?" his best friend from the other line literally screamed into his ear and Seungmin had to move the phone away for a moment. "You're drunk, aren't you? Tell me where you are and I'll send an uber to fetch you! Seriously, this child. It's Saturday and he's decided to go out drinking–"

A sigh left his lips, "Hwang Hyunjin, shut your trap before I make you."

There was a pause before he heard a weirdly freaked out squeak and then a loud thud before a yelp. Seungmin figured his best friend must have fallen off the bed, or the couch, or something.

"You're being serious?!"

Sagging his shoulders and staring absentmindedly at the blazer he had taken off earlier, Seungmin weakly hummed. The words of his father and brother ringing loud and clear in his ears even when the dinner was already an hour ago.

"Chan hyung, he...you know he's the closest to father, like I told you before," he heard his best friend hummed in acknowledgement. "The proposition is indeed a good deal but father is still with his...conservative ways, you know."

"Oh, I know," spat Hyunjin, and then grumbling to himself.

Seungmin could not help but to smile at his friend's blatant dislike. A dramatic sigh later, Hyunjin shared his thoughts, "But Seungminie, sweetheart, we're talking about marriage here. And not just a simple one, for fuck's sake, both of you are 'marrying' this...person. Should I kidnap you and run off to Italy together?"

"And piss off not one, but an entire two of the most powerful parties? No thank you," chuckled Seungmin, feeling slightly comforted by his friend's usual silliness.

A moment of quietness draped upon them, both trying to straighten out their thoughts.

"On another hand, maybe they won't go through with it, now that I think about it," Seungmin stood up after setting his phone on the bed. He stretched his limbs from the long drive and exhaustion in general.

"What makes you think that?"

He shrugged lightly, even though Hyunjin could not see him, "There's a possibility that the other party won't agree to the conditions set by father and Chan hyung. Since, from what I know, the head of the family is quite hard to negotiate with."

An exasperated groan came through the line and Seungmin shook his head, as he took his night clothes from his wardrobe.

"Seungminie, I very much think that possibility is extremely borderline nonexistent. That's not even the main thing I'm concerned about if you ask me!"

Changed into a new top, Seungmin asked what is Hyunjin's concern if not for his marriage of convenience. To which his best friend went silent for a moment, enough for Seungmin to wonder if the line was cut if not for the faint sound of air-conditioner coming from the other's bedroom.

"Marrying a total stranger, alone, is one thing but you, Kim Seungmin, marrying a man you've only ever heard of from news outlets?" Hyunjin sharply exhaled. "You're...you're not even gay to begin with."

This, a fact that is in its truest form. A fact that his own family knows too. A small smile tugged at his lips as Seungmin settled himself on the bed once again after changing into his clean shorts. In his head were the words he had come to hold as he accepted his father's proposal. Not resigning but readying to accept.

"I don't have to be to take care of someone who'd be my significant other, Hyunjin-ah."
