Mean

Seungmin woke up with a headache for a start. Wincing and groaning low in his throat, the younger forced his eyes open. Only to be met with darkness in a familiar room that he was not supposed to be in at– Seungmin strained his neck to check his clock – five in the morning.

Why is he still at his apartment?

Rubbing his eyes and exhaling tiredly, Seungmin wondered how he even reached his apartment. All he remembered was the last ring of the bell signaling the end of examination for his second last paper. Then the door opened, irritating his eyes with the sudden stream of light.

"Oh, you're already awake?" Hyunjin sounded more worried than surprised and Seungmin wondered if something happened to him to warrant that. "Is your temperature spiking? Is your body aching? Is your stomach cramping– do you feel like puking? Hold on, let me–"

Before Hyunjin could exit the room to retrieve whatever he planned on retrieving, Seungmin sat up and said he was fine, "Just a headache but nothing I can't handle."

"Oh god, please don't scare me like that."

His shoulders visibly sagged, and hands coming up to rub at his face tiredly. All the while Seungmin tried to make sense of what happened but gave up when he could not recall anything useful. So he asked, and Hyunjin switched on the lamp before sitting on the carpeted floor close to the bed where he could face his best friend.

"You passed out after the exam," oh, Seungmin guessed that much. "Fever too. Kept on shivering and your temperature didn't come down, just until after midnight. Woke you up a few times to take meds too."

Nodding, Seungmin said his thanks quietly before asking if Hyunjin had eaten and sleep since he was awake at this unusual hour.

"Had some of your cereal just now. You want anything, Seungminie? I bet you're starving," Hyunjin chuckled and stood up. The taller gave an awaiting look which Seungmin replied with getting out of the bed.

The two ate with minimum noise since they are still pretty sleepy. Though, Seungmin has his conscience nagging at him to stop leaving his best friend in the dark. Hyunjin is respectful enough to give him space and not meddling with his marriage. His best friend deserves at least an assurance.

"You're not obligated to tell me anything just because I take care of your fever, dumbass," Hyunjin spoke right when he wanted to open his mouth. "I know when an explanation is due so just–"

He inhaled and exhaled slowly, eyes giving away his concern, "Rest. That's all I ask of you for now. We have time for Sob Session when the sun actually rises."

And they did have their Sob Session right after they woke up from another three hours of sleep and a shower. Seungmin was frustrated enough that he shed some tears and Hyunjin mostly remained quiet. He understands why his best friend feels what he feels and does what he does, so much so that he really does want to do the stupid thing now.

"I know I have to do well. Heck– I want to do well even though I don't like this course. But father just won't leave me alone everyday," Seungmin harshly wiped his tears. "I can't listen anymore. I can't take anymore fussing about him right now, when I have to focus. I can't focus, Hyune, I'm fucking tired– I can't– I can't breathe there..."

Seungmin inhaled as much as he could and exhaled slowly, following his best friend's instruction to calm himself down before continuing. The younger shook his head when Hyunjin said he does not have to keep talking about it if it is hard for him.

"And then Minho is– Minho is being mean," Seungmin bit his bottom lip when he felt it tremble, while his eyes started to water again. "Why is he being mean to me..."

Hyunjin pulled him in a hug, wrapped him tightly and rubbed his back, letting the younger vent out how unfair he feels with how Minho acts these days – that he sobbed out the first thing Hyunjin asked what was wrong earlier.

"I like our dinners, I like our tea time..." Seungmin cried softly, the fight is leaving his body. "I like them so much, why can't he see that..."

When the younger is calmed, Hyunjin detached himself from the hug and fetched a glass of water for him. He watched Seungmin slowly sipped them all before murmuring a request for him to go back to sleep, "Rest some more. Your fever is just barely gone."

"Are you going back?"

Hyunjin did not manage to answer when there are three consecutive full-on knocks at the door. Alarmed at the abnormality, Hyunjin was ushering the younger to go to his room and to leave him to attend the door, when a very familiar voice spoke up.

"Kim Seungmin, open this door."
