[2] The Girl

"Is there a number we can call for your parents?" Mike asks her calmly.
"Where's your hair? Do you have cancer?" Dustin asks.
"Shut up, Dustin." I say. My sister, Sara died because of cancer.
"Sorry." He says.
"Did you run away?" Lucas asks the girl.
"Are you in some kind of trouble?" Mike asks.
"Is that blood?" Lucas says and goes to touch her when I slap his hand away.
"Your scaring her!" I say.
"She's scaring me!" Lucas yells.
"I bet she's deaf." Dustin says then claps in her face making her flinch. "Not deaf."
"That's enough, all right? She's just scared and cold." Mike says.
"Do you have spare clothes?" I ask Mike and he nods and points to the laundry basket with fresh clean clothes. I grab a sweater and sweatpants and hand them to her.
"Here, these are clean." I say smiling at her. She takes the clothes and puts them on the table infront of her then lifts up her top up. The boys scream while I stop her.
"See over there, that's the bathroom. Privacy. Get it?" I ask her and she nods while I lead her to the bathroom. I go to close the door when she stops me.
"Oh, you don't want it closed?" I ask her.
"No." She says.
"How about we keep the door open 3 inches? Is that okay?" I ask her.
"Yes."
I tell the boys that she can actually speak.
"This is mental." Dustin says.
"At least she can talk." Mike says.
"She said no and yes. Your 3 year old sister says more." Lucas says.
"She tried to get naked!" Dustin exclaims
"There's something wrong with her. Like, wrong in the head." Lucas says. I scoff.
"She just went like..." Dustin says and imitates her taking her top off.
"She's scared!" I say.
"I bet she escaped from Pennhurst." Lucas says.
"Where?" Mike asks.
"The nuthouse in Kerley County." Lucas says.
"Oh yeah, the one Victor Creels locked up in." I say.
"You got a lot of family there?" Dustin asks Lucas grinning.
"Bite me." Lucas says, "seriously though, think about it. That would explain her shaved hair and why she's so crazy."
"And why she went like..." Dustin says and imitates her taking of her shirt again.
"She's an escapee is the point. She's probably a psycho." Lucas says and I scoff.
"Like Micheal Myers." Dustin says.
"That's why we should've never brought her here." Lucas says.
"You really are an idiot." I say.
"So you just wanted to leave her out in that storm?" Mike asks.
"Yes! We went out to find Will, not another problem." Lucas says and he has a point.
"Well whatever you decide to do with her, I wasn't involved. This is stupid and I'm not getting fired." I say grabbing my bag and leaving.

"Where the hell have you been?" My dad asks as I walk through the door.
"Out." I say.
"You know your not allowed out with Will Byers being missing." My dad says.
"You said that's he's probably ran away to his dads! Has something bad happened to him?" I ask and he stays silent. I storm to my room, slamming the door behind me.

The next day, my dad is already gone. I get dressed and skate to school. I need to check in on Jonathan. I try and call him but the line is already busy so I'll just see him at school.

I get to school and see Nancy and Barb talking. I walk up to them.
"When alpha particles go through gold foil, they become..." Barb starts to say.
"Unoccupied space." Nancy replies.
"A molecule that can..." Barb says when Steve snatches the flash cards out of Barbs hands.

"I think you've studied enough, Nance." Steve says. I roll my eyes as Carol starts making faces at me.
"Im telling you, you know, you got this. Don't worry. Now, on to more important matters. My dad has left town on a conference and my moms gone with him. Cause, you know, she doesn't trust him." Steve says.
"Good call." Tommy H says.
"So, are you in?" Steve asks her.
"In for what?" Nancy asks.
"No parents? Big house?" Carol says.
"A party." I say to Nancy because she still isn't getting it.
"Ding, ding, ding!" Carol says laughing.
"It's Tuesday." Nancy says. Carol and Tommy H start laughing when Steve hits them.
"It'll be low-key, it will just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?" Steve asks her.
"Hey, man. Why are you saying this infront of the snitch?" Tommy chuckles.
"Come on man. She's cool." Steve says and I smile at him.
"She's a freak." Carol says, "Oh god. Look."
We all look over and see Jonathan put up a missing persons picture. I felt really bad for him.
"Oh, God, that's depressing." Steve says.
"Should we say something?" Nancy asks.
"You're all such assholes, honestly." I say and walk over to him. I couldn't stand hearing them anymore.
